Today I got a surprisingly rude email from someone in response to my ad. They didn't even visit my site and based their assumptions off of the three family pictures that were on my ad. What possesses people to write something like this?

"Yet another girl with a camera that thinks they can moonlight as a photographer without the proper education and real world experience. I hope you feel great about ruining peoples once in a life time events with badly exposed, badly lit, awfully composed images that were taken with some cheap camera. You are not a photographer, you are a camera owner."

You are more than welcome to check out my site. I accept criticism - when it's not straight-up rude and full of assumptions.

The photos on your site are marvelous. What kind of pictures did you use in the ad to make em say that?

I was expecting real crap. Nothing of the sort. I think the majority of your images are well done. Certainly better than much of what I see. I would love to see what your ad looked like because that email is off the wall.

It's problably some photographer ticked off that youre charging less than them and forcing them to reduce their prices.

There are some sour photographers out there that feel that that other photographers who undercharge screw them over and are not worthy of photography.

I see both points of the party, but he/she should have never said something so nasty to you. It shows how classless they are.

I wouldnt worry about it.

Somebody must have been having a REALLY bad hair day - your photos are lovely.

I, personally, dislike weird angles in photos, but I bet if I came to you as a customer, you'd make a note of that and keep the angled ones to a minimum, right?

You look perfectly capable of delivering what your clients need and want, so that person just needs a few chill pills. Don't lose sleep over that email.

Thanks you guys I used: This one This one and this one since it was an ad for family photos.

This s the actual ad the pictures get messed up a bit because it resizes them funny: //www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=11105469&cat=17&lpid=&search=

Not bad. There is a typo in the ad though. Instead of saying "also" it says "laos". Isn't that a country?

Unfortunately, in MY opinion, those three are not as nice as others I have seen on your slideshow.
However, before writing such an email, the person SHOULD have gone to check out the rest of them.

Your photos are wonderful.
I wouldn't worry about the e-mail. You do absolutely fine work!

Thanks for pointing out that typo. Beetle I do agree that those probably aren't the best of my family pictures. I just used those ones because the other pictures are on my old computer. Maybe next time I should just take the extra time and putting up the better photos.

You have some really, really lovely pictures in your portfolio, the ad unfortunately does not reflect this at all. That does not excuse the rude email, it's just an observation that I hope is helpful :)

I would love to know which pictures I should use next time so I can show my work off better.

Maddie, looking in your Family section the orchard shots are especially lovely - the Tea Party and Clarissa's Family has some very appealing images :)

Thank you for your feedback. I put up some different pictures. Sadly their viewer makes them not look as nice. I appreciate all of your nice comments. You made me feel better :)

Did he send you details of his site? Would like to see his/her work.

Yours looks good - nothing to worry about there.

No, they didn't send me details, but their email had studio1utah in it, but it turns out it wasn't them.

edited to update information so studio 1 doesn't get the blame anymore

Yeah....I'm just not seeing what is so bad about your photos. They look great! I can only imagine the people on the other end of the camera were pleased. There is no reason they shouldn't be. :)

People can be such #%#@ sometimes....probably spilled hot coffee on themselves a few times too. :)

You know it could just have been an email in envy because you are a competitor and do better job than they do? ;-)

Take it in a positive way and go hunt more of their customers!!!

The site has a link to a search for models for GoldsGym. Maybe he was just in the midst of a 'roid rage episode...

interesting. If you look at their calendar it shows the days they are booked. Or it would if there were bookings...

Find out the "native size" (in pixels) of the template slots you are fitting and then resize them to that size yourself, so you can fix/tweak any problems caused by the resampling. Make it so they don't have to resize the pictures at all.
