Our family are planning a trip to Holland in a couple of weeks, from there we will be traveling on the fast trains to Paris, Bern and Frankfert and back to Holland.
I have been told that some of the Photography rules are different than in Australia and I should try and find out about them.
In Australia we can take photo's from a public street and I have taken photo's of trains, planes etc etc with out ever being challenged would the same rules apply over there?
Thanks for your help in advance.
BTW we will also stopover in Singapore for 3 nights. |

hey Bob, as far as I know you should be fine....I travel a lot, I am German, live in England and travelled to all the countries you just mentioned apart from Switzerland and have never had an issue....the only problem may be at airports....which I would guess would be the same in Australia though ;)Enjoy your trip with your family and take lots of pictures! By the way....love Queensland...was there in 2007 ;) Have a lovely weekend!

I heard a story where a photog was approached by security guards at a Rail station in Germany actually. She was told she was not permitted to take any photo's, but that appears to be incorrect I found this.
Cut & Paste re:Rail.
"The official line is that you can take photographs from a public place providing you don't use a tripod or include SNCF staff in the picture. However, the is a clever rider in the official rules that states "this can be overruled if - under Plan Vigipirate - there is a heightened state of security in the area", so one really has no comeback if security staff are intent on challenging you and telling you to stop photographing"
Would have been great to have you visit while in Queensland, maybe next time :)

| I am definitely planning to go back to Oz one day, 1 month was not enough at all to see all there is to see ;) will give you a shout when down there...but that may still take a few years... ;) |

| No special rules in the Netherlands as far as I know, just the obvious ones. Have a good time! |

i had no problems in switzerland when i was there and i took several pictures at train stations and subway stations coming from the airport. they're too concerned with keeping time to care about a curious photographer ;)

I had no problems in Bern, Switzerland, and I was right outside and around the parliament building. Also, no issues in Freiburg, Germany, but that is a standard tourist area anyway.
 
Sorry the parliament building is washed out, sun was in a horrible spot when I arrived.
Also, Germany was at a heightened state at the time because of the national elections. At Frankfurt Main Station I saw plenty of people with cameras.
