Went and did some damage. Liking a lot of what I am seeing. Some interesting slices of life, and some very sobering ones as well.

You have given an average score of 6.5600.

My own is looking a little better after a few more votes.

9 votes...6.6667 Started with an 8...dipped to 5.5, slowly climbing.

I am a bit disappointed with some of the entries - some were awesome - some lacked any kind of life and were more static buildings and walls...not sure what people are thinking sometimes. Good luck to everyone in any case

I agree, I'm a little let down. I was expecting to see a lot of beautiful snapshots and candid moments. There were a couple stand-outs but a lot were just straight on landscapes, which barely meet the challenge. This would have made an interesting last challenge for the DPL.

The challenge description says: "Capture a moment that defines life in your city." It seems the voters interpreted that to mean "capture a moment that could only be captured in your city & nowhere else, & make sure it's obvious enough for someone who doesn't live there to notice." I'm disappointed.

But you might not realize how much your town is defined by that type of moment. I'm getting very lack luster votes on my image, it could be that it's a lack luster photo. However, my concern is that people thought it was a shoehorn and not really something that defines life in my city. However, it definitely defines life in my city, because the whole city revolves around it. But I guess that you don't realize that until you've lived someplace similar.

My only disappointment is that there is not one photo of a Seattle fish monger throwing a fish in front of a crowd. I'm crushed. It would have gotten a 10 from me without question.

In some ways, I think the voters don't trust the photographers. Who would know your city better than you? Who would be better able to capture a defining moment than you? Who would be the least-qualified to judge your choice of moment than someone who has never lived there (the voter)? Sometimes I feel the voting mentality is like a pack frustrated art critics, looking for any little thing to shoot down. What happens to us when we start voting?

As you may guess, nobody likes my choice of moment except me. I guess I'll just dry my bitter tears & try to move on. "D

Lots of lovely landscape/architecture shots, but for me a city is more defined by its current populace than what people in the past built. So though I won't necessarily vote shots like that down, those that actually show people doing something will probably get an extra point or two.

I used "city" loosly as I live in a more rural setting. So life in my city is really not city at all. The day I went out shooting was pretty hot out and everyone seemed to be inside taking a nap, so I went with something that defined an important part of our communities activities. I agree that the votes seem to be pretty minimal based on the term "city" and not actually where we live. This was discussed in another thread that those people in rural areas would probably experience issues with voting. It is too bad. I try to judge the photo and not how it playes into the theme unless it is just blatantly shoehorned in.

Hanging out in the low 5's and 1 comment suggesting it is marginally DNMC. I don't agree, but can appreciate that others define the challenge more narrowly. Waiting for the more generous voters to come around.
