I couldn't find it on Wiki.

I don't think it's an official flag. The colors and stripes look like an Iranian flag, but the other two elements I have not seen before.

That's what I figured. Could it be Palistinian?

eta

Nope.

It's not any country's flag. Maybe some activist group emblem?

Looked around for those and didn't find anything to match this one, though.

I've looked at terrorist flags, signal flags, Aboriginal flags, with no luck. I need to find a site with old flags that aren't used anymore.

Thanks for looking Alicia and Jonathan. :)

Did you consider provincial flags for whatever country the flag without emblem is?

you could try to trace it and make a simple cartoon image, and then search tineye for it

I did but the three colours do not match any country flag except Iran. As jeger mentioned it looks Iranian but it isn't. Thought maybe it was pre-revolution but no again. I searched for Hezbolah and Hamas and they do not look similar at all. I thought for sure this was a native people's flag in North America but nope. I have seen it before though.

I'm embarrassed. I live in Quebec and never saw this in its context as a patriots flag. That's why I knew I saw it before though. So it's a separatist flag. We're probably going to see lots of these around since Patriots day is coming up in June for the province.

Thanks Usti.

redjulep, I took the pic downtown here in Montreal at a t-shirt shop and was wondering why the store owner put it out in prominence near the front of his store. I really hope I don't see many of these around, kind of gives off the wrong idea that people want to separate when statistics show the opposite is true, most Quebecers want to stay in Canada.

I just saw this thread and new immediately what that flag was... saw a few of them in Quebec during the October crisis in 1970 and the FLQ also used that image on their manifesto.

I remember seeing the soldiers hiding in trees as I was going to school but do not remember seeing this flag.

Thanks Ray. What were you doing in this area back then?

I don't believe I ever saw it on a flagpole anywhere either, but the Front de Libération du Québec (FLQ) did incorporate this image in the manifestos they sent to the media.

Actually, I was in the RCMP and working in the realm of security.

Neener, neener, neener...you can't, I changed my name to rayethier and moved to some small town in Ontario and dyed my hair reddish white, and disguised myself as a almost senile, paunchy old dude who walks about inconspicuously carrying a great big camera with a large white lens.

.... you will never find me. :O)

I ran it through Google Goggles on my phone and it came up with this page about Quebec... so I would assume it is indeed the flag of Quebec:

//fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drapeau_du_Qu%C3%A9bec

Yes, the one in the Wiki article is the official Quebec flag; the one I posted is akin to the Confederate flag in the southern US. It doesn't serve an official purpose but it has symbolic value to some.
