'This is NOT a food challenge; your task is to shoot the stuff you use to PREPARE your food.'
So are you allowed food on display in the Kitchenware challenge ?
Can you only show items associated with food preperation ?

I was about to say "don't be so pedantic you dork" but didn't want to insult anyone. Then I realised it was just you :P hehe..j/k
I'm sure there may be some "dnmc nazis" or whatever who say "noooo, theres food in that shot" but surely the aim is just to have kitchenware as the subject of your photo, rather than food as the subject with a fork in the b/g
edit to clarify: aim is to have kitchenware as the subject, which doesn't forbid having a slice of cheese in the background.

You'll get whacked by people with DNMC if your subject is food.
But you won't get DQd if your subject is food. It's not a rule.

I'm one of those terrible, unartistic people that still dare to care about the challenge topics.
Here is my shockingly narrow-minded opinion on this challenge:
if there IS food in the photo, it needs to be secondary to the main subject, which is some sort of kitchenware. However, being in a kitchen, I think it is only natural that there may be food in the picture, as well.
