Actually I have to agree there are far to many broken eggs for this challenge and way to many auto accidents this week. I didn't have either one of those type of photos. Mine was creative and I am paying for not using broken eggs in my photo or for showing the after effects of an auto accident. There are some really good photos this week aside from those that forgot to think past the auto accident and the broken eggs I just hope that some of them are doing better than a 4.6.

Ha (Longing for 4.6) -- mines a 100+ year old Oops and barely above 4. So no eggs or cars for me, guess I was obscure. Makes me wonder -- do you guys read titles if you don't understand? I think a photo should stand on its merits, but sometimes I just don't get it so I need the title to guide me -- mine is a shot where I guess the title has to help you find the Oops...

Guess the real Oops was my entry :)

I had one of the egg shots, I have to admit that it did lack creativity, but in my defense, this was my first entry, I am a beginner, and decided to enter with not much time left, and it was all I could think of at the time. As everyone else here, I am trying to improve not only my technique, but my creativity in my photo ideas. Although I am open to constructive critism I don't feel that it needs to be done in such a negative way. I am looking forward to all the upcoming challenges and learning from each and every one of them, as well as learning from all of you.

My entry might have the egg one's beat. I'm not even sure if it's my composition, subject matter, or legality issue that's doing me in. Not enough comments to tell.

no more than moon pictures in the recent "round" challenge...

I think the fact that a lot of people thought of it means it really says "oops" to them.

I thought of both and then went for something different. No harm done if several people had the same idea.

My broken egg rocks!

SO what if the entire challenge featured broken eggs and crashed cars?

Judge each entry on its merits. You'll find some good photos of broken eggs and some less good ones. Of course, some topics suggest some subjects, but creativitiy isn't limited to finding different subjects. It can deal with using a well-worn subject, too.

I have a problem with the broken egg photos because someone brought up that very subject in a thread within hours of the theme being announced. That means to me that a bunch of people didn't even have to think up their own idea.

I discarded the whole notion of broken eggs as soon as I saw that post. I even had a brain storming session with my wife and son and we together came up with the idea that I used.

WOWWWW a newbie comes to the site and has nothing but negativity to contribute. No matter how many broken eggs there may be - people put a lot of time, effort, and CREATIVITY into the shots. Respect is the name of the game. Just because it may be obvious to you doesn't mean everyone else...I personally would have NEVER thought of a broken egg.

If you read the forums, you should know better that most people DON'T read the forums. this is usually witnessed in the way everything is voted on in the most literal terms, even when forums discuss the upcoming challenge to death and how everyone should be "creative."
Also, alot of these shots may be from new members, who have to start somewhere. Egg is easy to procure and can be set up over and over without alot of money/time involved. Everyone should look at their own first entry, and critique it now (if you have been here awhile). See what ya think.

same here, I've had some good comments, but my score isn't that high

I find that some people here live for the challenges and some people who are members on here just like to look at other peoples pictures, put their own on, want their pictures critiqued etc. Not everyone is of the same mind as witnessed by these posts. Does that mean they shouldn't be members and/or participate in what they want?

I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE IF I HURT SOME SENSITIVE PEOPLE,IT WAS BECAUSE I AM VERY HONEST AND I ALWAYS SAY WHAT I THINK. SORRY TO THE PEOPLE THAT TAKE MY CRUDE CRITIC IN A BAD MODE

I agree, I flicked through the pictures and can find maybe ten I could say anything constructive about and its not worth saying anything negative about any because you get the sort of responses as above.

How I long for a stimulating challange, maybe we could have just one from the paying members area? Proberbly not though.

Wow, unfortunately this seems to be the lowest scoring challenge that I have voted on...
There were good pictures in between, but not many :(

09/05/2003 07:36:58 AM · #23
so I might be scoring quite high with my 5,3:o....lol
09/05/2003 08:53:30 AM · #24

personally, i too am disappointed with the quality of the submissions for Oops. As far as a stimulating challenge goes, I think this is perfect! It was a wide-open chance to be creative and humorous, and unfortunately not many people explored the challenge to its full potential.

A broken egg is a broken egg. If it's well-done, it will score higher. If it's just a picture of a broken egg, there's no incentive for anyone to give it a high score. I don't think the fact that there are a lot of broken egg pictures is weighing down their scores collectively. I think it's the fact that there are a lot of NOT VERY GOOD broken egg pictures is why they're not doing so well. (Sorry to all of you eggers out there -- some were definitely better than others.)

Let's not complain about not having any opportunities to be creative or stimulated. I think this was a great one. It's challenges like "Insects" and "In the Garden" that drive me nuts and bore me to tears.

I've given up shooting for score and instead have focused on shooting for ME. Why? Because there are apparently a ton of people out there who give a 10 to every flower macro or smiling kid photo that they can find and that's just not my style. I'd rather shoot things that are creative, that make me smile, and will go over well with my friends both here and off-line. How they rank really doesn't matter to me at all anymore. This site is just too conservative sometimes.
