I was thinking today: (woah, stop the presses....)

no, seriously. there are quite a few younger members and non-members. what about an under-21 challenge - open only to those members under 21 years old?

I think that would be a great idea. Some of the young'uns are really talented. Then maybe we can have a challenge for the thirty somethings. But we have to be quick or I will end up having to jump into the next age group...........

Slippery Slope. Other than member status, nobody has ever been excluded from a challenge here.

What if I used a fake ID? Could I enter? :P

Except the # of comments challenges, and the # of ribbons challenges.

Errr....yes, they have. Remember the Best of 2002 challenge?

And the challenge for those made more comments than received?

I wouldn't mind seeing it. There are many good photogs on DPC that are under 21.

Let's see how long it is before someone posts ("***blank*** will win the under 21 competition.) I'll let you know when that "blank" is filled with the name of the person that I know will be mentioned.

Personally, I'd like to see a "yanko only" challenge to be honest. :P

In theory I like the idea, if someone can give us a practical way to enforce the age restriction.

Could always run a few age-related challenges at the same time then why would someone want to fake their age to enter? I can understand someone doing it as a way to enter a challenge they wouldnt otherwise be able to enter but if they have their own challenge for their own age group then what would be the point?

Could do a camera brand name too, although that may alienate some more than the age groups thing, but it would be just for fun anyways, right?

maybe you can trust the word of people, it would seem kind of embarassing for someone to win a under 21 challenge if they are, say 45...

Yeah, I know personally I'd feel like an idiot if I was 45 and entered an under 21 challenge.

With regards to enforcing it just make it so if the age section on someone's profile says they are over 21 they aren't eligible to enter. You just have to trust people on this one. You'd have to be pretty lame to enter this if you were over 21.

What's to be gained by separating the community into age groups?

A few age related challenges sounds fun-- going on the "Honor System"
Group 1: 0-18
Group 2: 19-37
Group 3: 38-56
Group 4: OLD!! j/k 57+

Nothing in particular. It would just be easy to see what the younger crowd here comes up with.

How about a copy of their birth certificate, FBI background check, a statement (in triplicate) signed by at least 3 witnesses (who must be either doctor, lawyer, priest, teacher or their milkman).

Validation: the top 5 must send a piece of their left earlobe for DNA testing.

Gee, you're quite the practical idealist aren't you! : )

i just thought it would be great to encourage the younger crowd. i guess that's the high school art teacher in me coming out...

What if you are 21, can we slip in.
05/24/2006 09:28:28 PM · #22
Just out of curiosity...what is the stats for the ages on dpc...I know we had a 2 year old at one stage but I can't remember if that child is still registered and participating. Does anybody have any run down on how many young members there are?
05/24/2006 09:28:58 PM · #23
Yes yes yes.. Im 18 great idea!
05/24/2006 09:32:57 PM · #24
Sounds like a good idea to me. There's a lot of multiple ribbon winners in that age group, it'd be almost a guarantee that they would take the top 5 at least. But it'd be pretty cool, I'd enter.
