I am preparing a large number of pictures to upload to my gallery and I decided to learn the automate function in CS. I am able to get the automate function to record the resize of a photo down to 640, but i am unable to force it to optimize the file size of the picture to 150kb. When I record, I am using the "Save for Web" function under "File". "Save for Web" allows for both image resizing to 640 and file optimizing to ~150kb. When i "Play" the macro, the record function is capturing and completing the image resize to 640, but refuses to optimize the file size to 150.
I understand how to modify batches with the automate, I just can not get it to record the macro the way that I want.
How do I get it to record "optimize file size to 150?"
What am I doing wrong?
Any tips or tricks? |

A. You don't or at least not without some extra work.
B. Nothing
C. There is somewhat of a work around HERE. |

I was afraid that was going to be the answer.
Thanks for the help. The workaround is neat, but the scripting is too advanced for me to feel comfortable with at the moment.
That would be great for somone really in a bind who understood some JS. |

Why not just make an action with Save to Web and the size and byte size you want. Easily done with the dropdowns.
all you have to do is go to Actions...Record (name it etc.)...(always good to convert to the sRGB profile now) Save to Web...Set the Image Size on the long side to 640 (may have to do 2 different actions, one for portrait and one for landscape)...Click the little arrow and fgo to set file size, put in 149, enter and Save (to what folder, etc.)...Stop Action. Try it out. Works right, remember to save that Action Set, so you can use it again. Close all files. Go to Automate and Batch (in CS Browser, choose the pics first) Select the Action you made and go for it.

thanks for the help,
that is exactly what i tried last night and tried again just a few minutes ago. it still does not work as desired. the actions uses percent values to compare and create the files. so really, actions does not work correctly with the SFW at all. if in the actions you resize a 2048 x 1536 to 640 x 480, then use the same action on a 1024 x 768, you end up with a picture that is 320 x 240. Similarly, file size optimization does not work as desired. This is a known characteristic as seen in the link given to me by TechnoShroom that links to Adobe forum help. |

Dr. Russell Brown's image processor was later integrated into Photoshop CS2. You can download it and see the tutorial on his site
