There are quite a few people interested in Whitby, you'd be surprised

Last person I have found who was there was the 7th of March - no problem getting in however, not sure people are up for this type of activity.
As for this weekend, I think I have to pass, but I'm still trying to wiggle my way out of a previous (no fun) engagement.
I'm also looking around for some more Ontario/GTA outings that people might enjoy! |

Well, we're coming in from Waterloo, and we wanted to spend a little time downtown before visiting with some family in Aurora, so we thought we'd make a day of it. :)

Actually I'm not surprised at all that people are interested, I just want to make very sure that everyone who goes realizes that it is an illegal activity and if we get caught, you'll likely get into some type of trouble.
Now that we are advertising it, my conscience is telling me perhaps it was not the best idea to mention it on an open forum (should have discussed it at our first GTG) There are a number of kids, teens etc on this site and I wouldnât want to encourage them in this type of activity. You have to admit a bunch of adults wandering through deserted buildings with cameras are far less likely to get into trouble then teens doing the same. There is also the mix of countries to consider, what is seen as a mild âcrimeâ in Canada may not be so mild elsewhere.
I mentioned it first and I was excited at the idea, but as an adult with a strong sense of responsibility I am kicking myself in the butt for not thinking it through. Not trying to lecture, just trying to put it in perspective.
We also have to consider at this particular location there is severe flooding in the basement, hallways with asbestos, plenty of rusty metal, etc⦠I just really donât want a kid/teen to read our posts think itâs cool and then go off alone to do his/her own investigation of abandoned buildings without taking certain safety precautions and without thinking the consequences through.
I know Iâm being a hypocrite, but I canât help but let my conscious get to me.

I've checked, there is no way we are going to get in there legally. The current owner is adamant that no one enters the grounds and the safety issues alone (mentioned above) means unless we take out our own insurance he wouldnât let us in on legal issues alone.
The last legal use of the buildings were for a movie shoot and they had insurance, waivers, safety professionals etcâ¦

I'll be there! I expect to arrive quite a bit early (8:30?) and take some outside shots. Iâll have to leave around 11:30 due to other commitments.
It looks like I'm not the only one with a new camera.
