Well, you've lost me because there IS no *real* Shawshank prison in Maine or anywhere else. There's a "Shawshank Stone" in Portland, Maine, but... |

Okay, it was too obscure.
This is a remaining portion of a wall of the Maine State Prison in Thomaston, Maine. The Thomaston prison was closed and demolished in 2002 and moved to Warren, ME. The Prison Store is still in Thomaston. They sell wood crafts made by the prisoners.
According to IMDB, Shawskank State Prison is loosely based on the Maine State Prison in Thomaston.
