Mishka Henner was shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize this year (2013) for his "work" of "using" GSV to highlight sex workers and their locations. I find it intriguing (and a turn around for the books) that he is credited in some way as the photographer of these images but to my mind he is merely a researcher in this instance. Where FaceBook and Google are changing their policies if being able to use your posted images on their service for re-sale without compensation to you, this is ironic no?

Still it's a very interesting project. Look below each image; there's a "Previous / Next" link to run through the images.

"No Man's Land"

Home Page with other very interesting "work".

It really is amazing; the only thing he did was cropping out google insignia, maybe boost saturation and sharpen. Than he prints it on 20x24 and makes $.
Why don't I ever have those ideas?

As an art project i really like it. It kind of works in the same way as a piece of art using found objects and the fact that he uses Google streetmap images adds another interesting layer that explores voyeurism, privacy and exposure that interwines with that of sex work.

Google maps / street view is AWESOME. I virtually retraced my steps from a trip to Italy 25 years ago - was very cool.
I also used a street view photo in a side challenge a few years back:

Interestingly, that street view has since been updated.
