I don't really have the money to upgrade my Canon A70, not even mention a digital SLR. I still have my former USSR Zenit but this one also have its limitations. The A70 also is limited in terms of DOF etc.
I want to buy a second hand Nikon FM2 or a new Nikon F75 (low budget) and learn more about photography. This will take me back to film.
Do you have any advice on the equipment?
Is it worth or shoul I wait till I have the money for a 300D or D70?
Thanks!

Can't help you with you equipment question, I can only answer your thread title. I put the finishing touches on my new darkroom today, and should be printing tonight. I am so excited!!! I have about 30 rolls of black and white that have been waiting patiently in my refridgerator for this night. Tommorrow, my frige will have room for food! But I bet that I buy paper instead! Good luck with your camera search!

I still shoot film. Just picked up another 6006 body w/ a 50mm 1.4.

Once you decide on a manufacturer, Nikon, Canon, Sigma, Minolta, etc....then you can start your glass collection. Shooting film will at least get you into a manually optioned body, then when you choose to switch or ADD a digital body, you will have some of your glass established.

Find a manufacturer that you feel comfortble with though. Once the glass starts accumulating, you will be pretty obligated to continue with that manufacturer when going digital.

ive been thinking about doing the same thing as you, buying a used camera from BH, and putting on the 50mm 1.8. Ill go with canon, because i feel that their lenses give more bang for the buck.

I have a Canon EOS 650 (I think it is) that I used to use as my main camera until I went digital.

Since I got a point/shoot a few years ago I have used the camera periodically, when I needed to take something special rather than just a snap.

Since I got my dSLR I've not put a film in the old one. Regardless of the argument of whether digital or film is better quality, personally I always get better quality with digital. Why? Because I am a very average photographer and with the digital I can shoot 500 photos and get 5 decent ones from it. I may take 10 photos of any given thing I want to shoot. With film I just can't afford to, so I maybe take 1 photo and it's pot luck if it works :)

There, just my personal experience. If I were more skilled I would probably use the 35mm more often.

I shoot film. I have a canon A2 and a 1Nhs. I think your choices come down to what your goals are. If you want to take saleable photos(to magazines and the like) I would sugest an eos 3(this is the replacement of the A2). Even a used A2 would do well. The A2 only goes to half stop changes is its downfall. If you want to go digital look for a used 1ds or the new one canon has out Mark III(i think). If your not looking to sale anything to magazines the 300d is great. The sensor is just to small.

Please note these are my opinions and they are not often agreed with here. And I know nothing about Nikon except that there old lenses work with the new cameras and Canons doesn't.

For reviews, try www.epinions.com - there are even reviews for out-of-date cameras. It works like Amazon.com - users review the stuff, not magazines that are getting paid by advertisers.
