Or do you know anyone who has had Steroid injections in burn scars?
I've done some research on the web... but if any one of you have any experience with this kind of thing, please let me know.
Dallas goes Nov 7-8 to get his first round of steroid injections. then it'll be every 6 weeks until... I don't know when.
with any surgery or surgical practice, we are quite weary... so any knowledge you may have would be helpful.
thanks guys!

Clearly with the recent news of bacterial meningitis infections due to inject-able steroids, you have reason to be concerned. But there are many reasons that doctors often use steroids for scar treatment, including to reducing the itch, redness and other assorted inflammation issues associated with the scars. As I understand, it is also believed to that steroid injections may help reduce the size of the scars themselves.
Good luck and make sure to ask the medical staff LOTS of questions!

That contamination caused fungal, not bacterial, meningitis; an important difference. I'd be more concerned about the safety and efficacy of the treatment itself than possible contamination. |

My bad....Thanks for the correction. Not enough coffee this morning to separate news stories. We have a bacterial meningitis issue in our state right now as well.... |

the meningitis isn't as concerning as him going under anesthesia again, as this will be the 10th+ time.
from what I've read, the people who contracted the fungal meningitis were reviving injections in their joints... Dallas will have skin/topical injections.
according to his doc, these are supposed to soften the scars and help reduce size. plus, they wanted to try this route on his inner elbow area and armpit area before doing contracture releases (as they are much more invasive).
