Thought I would post this here as well. My husband's cousin set up a golf tournament/benefit for Dallas for anyone interested. It will be located in Shelby, North Carolina on June 2.

Here is a link to the picture I have posted in my portfolio:

All the information is listed here.

He is also looking for golf hole sponsorship for anyone who would be interested. I have no idea what all that entails, but if you have any questions, contact Chad.

We are praying that Dallas will be out of the hospital by then so he can go and see all the support he has.

Thank you all for the support you have shown in this terrible ordeal. I really do believe that all the thoughts and prayers have helped Dallas in his healing process and has gotten him through some really tough times.

Thanks again everyone!

What I know 'sponsor a hole' mean: Hole in one. There are only 4 Hole of Par 3. The contestant get the prize (sponsor prize) if he/she archive a rare 'Hole in one'. If there is no winner for that particular hole, the sponsor prize goes to Dallas.

Meantime, I was suggesting and my entry for Dallas (incl. release and high res) could be use for fund raising to the betterment of Dallas. Anyone?

In a golf tournament, to "sponsor a hole" means to pay a fee to the organizers in exchange for having your name (or your company's name) promoted on the tee for that hole. Typically a fee will be established for sponsorship, and the tournament organizers will use that fee to print the sponsorship placards for the teeing area, with the remainder of the funds going into the pot for whatever charity the tournament is being held on behalf of.

So, Denielle, ask Chad what the sponsorship fee is, and we can see if it's a goal DPC can work towards. Also, any DPCers in the area might volunteer to do photography of the groups in the tournament?

i would love to play, but its a bit far for me :(

another option to sponsoring a hole is to donate prizes for the raffle that is usually held at the banquet.

usually simple stuff, boxes of golf balls, umbrellas, maybe a digital camera :).

I've just noticed a direct link to Dallas' Recovery Fund; https://www.wepay.com/donations/dallas-ridings-recovery-fund

(As opposed to the links on CaringBridge which I *think* donated to 'CaringBridge Foundation')

Me three... That's 3/4 of an imaginary foursome, anyone want to join us?

Hrmm... Shannon's in Connecticut, Mike's in Philadelphia... I can pick Shannon up and then Mike, you're both on the way, all we need is a fourth on a straight line between Philly and Shelby...

ETA: 16 hours driving each way for me LOL, $300.00 in fuel, give or take.

I can't commit right now, but as it gets closer (and i find out my son's travel ball schedule), if I am available and you need someone to shoot the tournament, let me know. I'm about and hour and a half away.

I have asked Chad the cost of sponsoring a hole.
05/05/2012 06:33:23 AM · #11
Its $100 (£62)per hole so Chad tells me ,I,m sure that would be easy to do.
Anyone interested ?

What you would need is a person with a paypal receiving account who would then be willing to disperse to Chad.

Yeah, we ought to have DPC sponsor a hole. Ten of us at $10.00 apiece would do it. Put me down for the first $10.00 :-)

I'm in for $10. I'd shoot the tournament (I just did on on Thursday) but it's a bit of a drive.

Advice for anyone who DOES want to shoot - get a cart, run the course backwards (watching carefully not to interfere!) and take a list of all the participants/groups with you so you can keep track of who you shot. Tees and grees are best, don't interfere with the playing of the game if at all possible. I tell them "I'm your unofficial photographer and here to take your unofficial photo!" I tell them "On the count of 17..." then I snap. Or "On the count of three.... six..." and I snap. I take one horizontally semi-close up, and one vertically so they can do the clubs in front thing if they wish.

At this particular event, I also took a Selphy printer (and my laptop) and had one print ready for each foursome by the end of the tournament. I used the jpegs with autolevels and a slight crop/rotation if needed. Make sure you shoot +jpeg if you normally shoot RAW. Saves a lot of time in "processing."

I do hope someone can volunteer to shoot!

Hey, that's a great idea -- I'll try it next time ... also, I try to get them to tip their hats/visors back so that their eyes are not in deep shadow.

I'm usually 2nd photographer at one or two charity tournaments a year. I usually just stay at one tee and shoot each group as they come through. I shoot a group shot and then move around the side* and get an "action" shot of each of them teeing off ...

during breaks I'll take shots of players on the adjoining fairway or green

We haven't made on-site prints, but one time some prepared a slideshow which was run during the post-tourney dinner

*I've shot tee shots from behind, but I've found that if you can catch the ball in flight from the side, every shot appears to be 200 yards right down the middle ... :-)

$10 from me too...
05/06/2012 05:32:21 PM · #25
10.00 from me as well. PM me to tell me where to send the money. I take it that donating to the place on his update page ( I forget the name) won't work - too bad as that was easy :)
