I heard it before but it's still funny.

Last I checked, it was Americans that voted American politicians into office.

Again, so what? It's not politicians that are detaining people for taking photos.

The politicians certainly aren't stopping them from doing it. As a matter of fact wasn't it politicians that created and enacted the Patriot Act? Maybe the 107th Congress? You know that act that dramatically reduced restrictions on law enforcement agencies' ability to search telephone, e-mail communications, medical, financial, and other records. Or perhaps also expanded the definition of terrorism to include domestic terrorism, thus enlarging the number of activities to which the USA PATRIOT Act̢۪s expanded law enforcement powers can be applied.

Nah, had nothing to do with politicians.

There is nothing in the Patriot Act that gives the police the right to detain or harass honest citizens engaged in legal activities such as photography. The act gives the police, intelligence agencies, and the courts the tools needed to combat terrorism, and while there are some aspects of it that I disagree with and have been misused, most of it actually makes sense. It does not however give the police unrestricted power to act at their own discretion.

So yes, in instances such as this, the politicians had nothing to do with it.

Politicians are nothing but talking heads. They're vote whores. Most of the ones that voted for the Patriot Act probably didn't read it or have any idea what it was.
