To the members of DPC, I say this. I am sorry.

It is a new day and one day that is closer to Friday. You can't really complain about that!

I have decided that I am no longer angry at the masses here. Sure my scores still suck for the week and am I am still baffled as to how my doubletake challenge has held up as well as it has, but I read somethig that put things into perspective. Just because a photo scorese low doesn't mean it isn't a good photo and doesn't deserve to be hung on a wall, while other photos that win and score well often times aren't great photos and would never be hung on a wall. I think more merit has to be given to those photos that are of a subject and quality that people want hanging on their walls, and still do good in the challenges.

I started entering photos on this site not by reading a challenge and going and shooting a photo. Instead I went out with my camera and I took photos. If a challenge was there that a photo I had taken would fit into, I would enter it. For the Free Studies Iw ould try to enter something that fit the month of the Free Study, or for another subject I would look to see if something I had taken fit. I wouldn't shoot photos for the sole purpose of this site. Lately I have tried to force myself to enter challenges and in turn take more photos. But this really isn't my style. I have been beat up over the photos that I entered in my old way then I tried this new way of shooting just for challenges and feel I am being beat up there as well. But I have learned a lot about my photos with this new way and I think that is taking my photography to a higher level and in the end that is what I should be thankful for.

I do believe that cheating is taking place even worse then it was before. But at the end of the day you can't worry yourself over that.

So my new found outlook is this. Who cares? As long as I am havig fun and learning that is all that is important. And my score should not dictate whether or not I am having fun.

So, I apolgize. For the two rants I have made the last two days regarding voting on this site and righteous people. I apologize for the comments I may have made about some people or their voting style, even if the comment was at people in general. I apologize if my profile pictur eis offensive to some. I apologize for having people read my apology.

I think that is one thing that gets most new people that come to DPC, their photos tend to be loved by everyone yet they don't do as expected when submitted to a challenge. The thing you have to remember is that someone will always be better than you at anything you do, and you will never please everyone with your images, if you did it would lose its challenge part.

As for shooting for the challenge...good for you. I stopped stressing over trying to shoot images that fit the challenge. There are times I have done a particular shoot for here but on the most part it is just one that I came upon. I've got enough on my plate, I don't need the stress of that too. Some however thrive on it and excel from that...good on them.

You are a good photographer and your time (ribbon) will come, after all, it is a virtual one. :D

p.s. Air Force huh, I'm just south-east of you at Kadena (but I'm Navy), got some shots of the F22 in my portfolio you might like, not the best but I like em Jets

I found your profile picture quite humorous, but I have a warped sense of humor, LOL!

Last time I checked, we still had the freedom of speech and you probably just said what was on a lot of peoples minds but you had the guts to say it.

And by the way, thanks for the sacrifices you have made by defending our country! Some of us appreciate that people like you defend our freedoms!

I was stationed at Kedean from 95-99. I loved it there and would love even more to get back! The scuba diving was awesome! Nice photos of the jets.

Here's why I think some folks get upset quickly at DPC scores.

We play around, we take pics our friends think are cool, and so we enter.

And WHAM! Right between the eyes. So lesson one is that "average" here will still often get you oohs and aahs among friends and family. They'll also often get oohs and ahhs among many DPCers, just not necessarily the average of all voters.

The second point is that many people have seen so many beautiful photos that they get jaded. There are amazing pics that score in the mid-5s in every challenge.

So try to focus on improvement, not DPC scores. Sometimes the two line up. But to me, improvement means learning how to take shots YOU like, that look the way YOU want them to look.

And if you decide you do want to go for high DPC scores, or a professional shooting assignments, or just learning how to pull of some trick, then go about learning your audience and do what it takes.
