It's Victoria Day weekend here in The Great White North. Also known as the May Two-Four weekend, because it falls near the 24th of May and Canadians traditionally buy a two-four of beer (that's what we call a case of 24 beers) and party on.

The Slippy family has another May Two-Four weekend tradition. The Beating of the Goose.

We go to any park, because they are all covered by large flocks of geese, busily fertilizing the grass. The children find sticks appropriate for beating the geese, while the adults drink their two-fours of beer and give advice on what type of stick is best for inflicting maximum pain on the geese. Once the kids have found the perfect weapon, the fun begins! At the end of a successful May Two-Four Slippy Family Party, the park will lay beneath a thick coat of goose feathers, guts, and blood.

There are many reasons for this tradition. It's our tax-freedom weekend, and because we've spent the last five months working for the government we like to show our appreciation by beating the shit out of a symbol of Canada. (We also beat on beavers or moose if they're handy.) Also, it's a lot of fun, and good excersize for the children.

So what's your family tradition? Post 'er up, eh!

Just to hijack the thread a bit - Slippy, please don't tell me that your new profile pic really is a picture of you? If it is, I am gutted - you look almost, well, NORMAL....

Lots of Canada geese stop by our place each year during their migration. They can be very noisy at times. They like to wake me up at 3:00 AM. Thanks for beating them for me. I've often wanted to do that myself.

It's not really a tradition, but here in the US we like to spank a monkey or choke a chicken occasionally.

Looking almost normal adds shock-value to my abnormality. It's like a sneak-attack.

I have several good replies to this, but they would all get this thread locked! :-D

LOL... Wow Mick, you pretty much left Slippy speechless. That's a big accomplishment. You should take a bow. :-)

LOL, I'm just remembering the locking of the Red Ribbon Sumo thread, after talk turned to the crushing of heads in buttocks. :-D

As you can see, it is indeed a tradition. Although as this photo shows, some people don't wait for May.

So, how hard to the parents laugh if the goose turns around and bites the heck out of the kids? I can picture much spewing of beer through nostrils...

When they get to high school do they get to go after harp seal pups? Somehow I have problems finding a positive association between the concepts of "inflicting maximum pain" and "family values" ...

That boy appears to have made a fine choice of goose-beating stick! Good for him!

We were hoping for some goose-retaliation. Maybe the geese were confused by our children's use of stuffed predators.

Looks like good fun. I want to see tne next photo where everyone turns around and the goose chases the kids.

Your family should come to our house for dinner some time. Afterwards we will chase you around the yard and beat you with sticks. ;-D

Hey! Hrmph, last time I cozy up to YOU in the bar!

Slippy, it's especially effective if you use a decoy for distraction;

Then you can sneak up on them while they're trying to figure out which fowl dialect they should be using.
