How about a challenge in which we use a famous (or original poem) or quotation (that is in public domain) and take a photo to somehow illustrate or enhance it? I've seen a lot of cheesy posters like this, but it seems like something that sells...

I can just see a wonderful photo illustrating "In Flanders Fields the poppies grow..." or "Red lips are not so red as the stained stones kissed by the English dead..."

ALSO, In many business in our town, there are these huge posters with inspirational words on them, illustrated by a photograph such as "Determination" "Teamwork" "Integrity"--we could have an inspirational poster challenge... That ought to sell a few prints.

I love this idea (both times)!

Other poems/ quotes I like and which may work well:

"Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
Mark Twain

"Exploration is really the essence of the human spirit."
Frank Borman

"Spirit of place! It is for this we travel, to surprise its subtlety; and where it is a strong and dominant angel, that place, seen once, abides entire in the memory with all its own accidents, its habits, its breath, its name."
Alice Meynell

"The eye of a human being is a microscope, which makes the world seem bigger than it really is."
Kahlil Gibran, A Handful of Sand on the Shore

"The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."
Marcel Proust

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference"
Robert Frost

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined."
Henry David Thoreau.

I have some favourite poems too that I may dig out and propose...

Just let us pick the poem - and either use text in the shot or let comments field be visible and only allow the text of the poem below the shot. (or even above - people would be more inclined to read it THEN look at the picture).

Mav that idea's good too.

I'd like to see both - one where people pick their own and one where a quote or poem is set for everyone...
