Taken yesterday evening. There were about 20 sailboats out on the water but quite a ways off. Was wishing I had something more then my 150mm lens at the moment. Editing- cloned out some bouys, adjusted hue, saturation, gamma, and sharpened

And I just noticed I have another bouy to clone out lol. So ignore the little white thing floating in the water

What does it take to get some input around here?

It's a nice picture, nice color, but too much empty in the right....There is a balance betwen showing where it's going and having a lot of empty space.

I'm going to disagree. I happen to like the framing and wonder if an even wider frame might not have set the image apart even more.

I like the colors and think the reflection in the stillness of the water is rather cool. The one thing that is bothering me a little is the darkness in the sky that surrounds the sails of the boat - it doesn't look natural - as if the sky had been burned in order to enhance the brightness of the sails.

The main issue is that it just doesn't look natural. Had their been clouds behind the sails and some clouds were lighter and some darker, then it would seem more natural. But a blue sky that changes brightness only in some areas?

Looks a lil too red on my screen, but nice shot!

Ty lol, I'm wanting some help on the editing. The original is VERY dark because of thunderstorms rolling in. I actually just barely missed the storm lol. Left that spot and 5 minutes later we had a torrential downpour.

Anyhow, the darkness around the sails could be from clarifying so I'll go back and get rid of that.

The redness- It doesn't seem to red on my screen but it was at sunset. I had just a hint of sun peeking through the clouds and then it was gone.

I would have liked clouds, but all I had was a solid dark gray sky to work with. If I could put clouds up there I would lol. I suppose I could copy some in hehe.

So is it an effect of the Shadow/Highlight adjustment? Or how did you lighten it? Care to show the original?

I like the comp, but agree that it looks a little on the reddish side to me. From what I can tell (at this size), it appears to be good focus and no major lighting issues. The back bank may be a tad on the dark side, but you could bring out some more of those highlights with the dodge/burn brush or through levels/curves. The same goes for the overall color tones, to make them pop a bit more. Nice shot.

I use psp8 and just clicked on clarify and put it on the highest setting.

Now the rest of the editing I used Kyoto colors in Flaming Pear- it's a free plugin I found online. Anyhow, on there I adjusted the hue, saturation, lightness and gamma.

here's the original.

course now that I'm looking at it I think I overprocessed it. Maybe I should have just left it alone?

I'm trying to work on my whole editing side of things.

To me the WB is off (red colour cast). I hope you don't mind but I applied curves to your image and came up with this. The details are with the first image. (same processing on both)

I don't mind at all. I have a headache from trying to bring the colors out lol. Seriously I sat here for hours last night working on about 20 shots of sailboats.

Just a couple of attempts at being "creative" with the image...

This first one used a solarization filter. I've never even used this filter (well, I've tried it, I've just never liked it - this time I thought it came out kind of cool).

(edit: removed because it didn't look good after transfering to the web)

And this one used a filter that darkened and added blue to the sky while bringing the boat out more.

Anyway, like I said, both editing attempts were an attempt to be creative with what you had rather than trying to just make it look "normal".

Thank you for the help. I'm still sitting here fiddling lol. My heads pounding and I need to go to bed.

I uploaded a bunch to mpix because a friend wants to order for her stepdad for fathers day so I hope they are okay. I like the blue in your edit dw. Will have to aim for that.

I don't have a solarization filter. What is it exactly? I really need a newer editing program. psp8 is just not cutting it for me anymore.
