Ty
I am just curious where your eyes go in this picture.
I have someone interested in this, big place, would be big for me.

My eye goes right to the second column from the right but I keep forcing myself to look at the speck in the water to the left.

Same here

Ty, cloning is in order then? It's going to printed in 11x14 matted and framed.

First my eye goes to the middle of the ridge - then follows it across the water - then to the dark speck (bird?) in the water.

Nice picture. Couple of things for me. To answer your question, i start with the ornate ironwork of the bridge, then follow the arc to the distant shore. There is not much that catches my eye on the other shore so i go back to the beautiful bridge. I like your composition. Double check the levelness of your horizon though. Seems tilted slightly right.
Good luck!

First place I look is the structure at the center of the bridge.

My eye goes to the dark cloud on the left/beginning of bridge slope up but keeps going to the bird over the water.

I think if the crop were a wee tighter on top I would be be drawn to the column as well (I tried the "handinfrontofmonitor crop")

My eye is drawn to the far shore, and bounces back to the bridge. Maybe lightening the bridgework would slow me down a bit. Just a thought.

it's drawn to that bird... or dot.... in the left hand corner.

My eye is drawn to all the sky.... I'm really drawn nowhere in the shot...
For me, I would need the sky toned down and possibly cropped...
Then I am drawn to the middle of the bridge and then to the spot in the water...

My eye is compleatly drawn to the first colum, Not sure why
05/21/2006 09:14:37 PM · #13
Immediately between the first and second column.

Hope that helps?

Amazing how everyon sees it differently. I don't want to change it too much because the individual who wants it really liked what he saw to begin with.
Digital quixote I adjusted the contrast a tad to lighten it and I like that better. Thank you for the advice.
Cloned out the bird.

and here with the sky cropped more.

Yeah better without the bird. I am pulled through the pic now by the leading line of the bridge.

And ty all for your input. Really helps me out since I'm still a novice at the editing thing. I think I may reshoot tomorrow morning with the 14mm lens to see what the difference is. The other shore won't show up as well but I'm wondering if it will bring out the bridge more.

I don't like the cropped-sky one; it's almost claustrophobic?
I love the other one, tho', now that the bird is gone. It would have been a nice addition if it had been big enough to recognise at first glance, but as it was it was a distraction. Nice work :)

ty,
yes, I think I'll leave the sky. I don't like it without it because it seems too cramped to me.

I really like hearing how every sees it. Really helps me out as far as composition and what to look for- and the fact that we ALL see things differently and that is the art of it.

I am not sure that the blur works well in this image. It makes it difficult to find anything that really draws the eye into the photo.

I think the detail in the bridge is very important, so personally i feel the sharper the better. Lots of sky is good IMO!

I have a dozen shots of this bridge, so I could go with a sharper one. The guy really liked it this way- said it had an old feel to it and really liked that. Older looking is more my style so I'm not sure how far to go with the sharpening. I'll have to see if I can dig the original out.

My eyes go straight to the structure on top of the bridge, over the second column from the right. (The structure that looks like a toll both.)
05/21/2006 09:36:28 PM · #25
and I think I know why most people are drawn towards the columns on the right - it has the most distinguishable features and fetails, whereas the rest of the picture are too soft to hold any interest. The little thing in the water is a distraction and should be removed.
