You cant just post the link as a thumbnail, it is more complicated. Look here //www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=17

Hope that helps.

Thank you June and DI,

I guess I cant make a thumbnail preview because I do not have thumbs on the website but reference the photo and rescale it to make the thumb, it isnt another file....

Thanks for both of your help.

I like all three of these! My favorite is the first and its nice leading lines. Super work!

Here you have two of them , they are resized . For some people with dial up connection it could be more easy to see them like that.
The other one was too small.
Please let me know if you want me to delete them , I have put both in a folder with your name and username in my own portfolio.

What sofware do you use for the edition ?

Mambe,

Thanks for posting thumbs. I dont mind you having a folder with them in it. I will figure it out eventually.... You know I havent really figured the whole thumb thing out yet.. Hopefully the tutorial listed by Chiqui will help me at last. Thanks again. I currently use a combo of photoshop7 and the canon software that came with the camera to do my editing. Im not a very good editor and these are only minor touched up if any.

dsidwell - Thank you for the kind words, I am thinking about becomeing a member and enetering in some of the challenges, but with the talent that is on the site I have kind have been shy about that.

Thanks again,

Rich

Rich ,

This site is a wonderful place to learn , every week there are challenges , you don't need to be a member to enter the open ones .

I'm shy too , but I've found fantastic people there so I feel very at ease.

About your photo water3-p2:
I like the tones , maybe you took it during fall/autumn.The leaves on the floor , the trees and rocks create a sweet atmosphere , the water appears maybe a bit dark.
Have you tryed to apply some effects ? A place to find free actions atncentral

Water3_p2: a nice effect on the water, but overall a completely chaotic composition. There are too many distracting elements and no real dominant flow to the image, but the technique is good.

Beach1_p4: too small of an image to evaluate critically, but the overall impression is of a shot that needs post processing to clarify muddy colors. The sky is potentially powerful. The composition is okay, a nice "layered" effect, witht he boat about where it ought to be, but one would wish for a little more height in the viewpoint to separate the cabin-top from the far shore.

Beach1_p3: In many ways an "enchanting" photograph, and compositionally by far the most interesting of these. The light is nice, the colors are nice, the clouds are positively surreal in an intriguing way. But it suffers a bit from flatness, image-wise. The strong leading shape of the walkway, especially, is too evenly-lit to draw us int he way I'd like, and the landscape itself is a little flat of color and articulation. I have done a quick modification where I basically did three things: rotated ccw .2 degrees, added a gradient to the foreground and faded it (plus a very slight one to the sky), and played with hue/saturation to amp up the brightness and saturation of the yellow channel while decreasing the brightness but increasing the saturation of the red channel, introducing more texture to the landscape itself.

Robert,

Thanks for the insight. On water3_p2 would it had helped if it was cropped in tighter thus not having alot of the forest in the background? When you talk about flow are you talking about the water? or the leading of ones eyes into the shot?

On beach1_p3 I like the changes you made in the photo, but my question is why one would perceive that the lighting closest to the foreground be shaded? When you say you rotated ccw .2 degrees are you talking the whole photo? How did you do that in photoshop if you do not mind explaining (photoshop impaired)

Mambe
- Thanks for the insight as well, I havent really learnt photoshop well yet. I am going to be taking a few classes on it this fall. Hopefully then I will know better how to make a scene better. So many different people have a opinion on this photo with the overall composition, it makes me wonder what catches ones eye to say the comp is ok, and anothers to say possible crop it so you do not have the clutter.

Thank you both for your comments. I see I can learn alot here if I just ask for a hand.

Thanks Again
*-Rich
