I don't have one, in fact I don't think I've ever taken a picture of myself! I don't have a remote for my camera, I'm not sure I'd even be able to take a self portrait. I might have to work on that.

If your camera has a self timer than you can get one with that....the self timer is a great way to prevent any camera shake when doing any long shutter work.

Oh I've used the self timer lots, but how would I focus on myself?

Put something (I use a light stand) where you want to be in the picture, focus on that, set timer, run to spot, move light stand, smile, click! :)

Whew! I'll have to practice that, not sure if I can be fast enough! Thanks, I'll try it.

If you use a placeholder (like the lightstand or a teddy or whatever) to focus, change to manual focus, then you don't need to move the placeholder out of the way first - gives you more time to get into position.

Can't you just get someone else to push the shutter button?

Why does the 'avatar' have to be of you?

Can it be something that represents you, or your personality?

Mine was taken using the old "hold camera in front of face and click" technique. So were my 2 "Self Portrait" entries, both of which are in my top 5 high scoring pics.
C'mon...give it a try.

Personally, I enjoy learning a little bit about everyone here, and seeing a photo of their face is a big step in that - funny little pictures I can find all over the place.

I like it best when people use actual photos of themselves, because it puts a face to the name. Having some sense of what a person looks like makes the forums feel much more conversational and intimate. I like to feel like I'm talking to real people. When profile pics aren't of people it makes those users feel more like robots to me. Maybe I'm nuts, but when I can't see someones face, they become kindof cold and sterile in my mind, like talking to one of those automated computer things when you call an 800 number.

Funny little pictures also keeps people such as myself unatainable, invisible, unnoticed, unknown from the general public.

I don't trust as well as some others, especially on the internet.

Funny little pictures is my security blanket from freaks.

Thank you for expressing so well what I was too lazy to type out.
Couldn't agree with you more.

Unless you are very famous, I don't understand how a small photo of your face could pose any threat to you.
We still don't know your name or your address - it must be pretty hard to stalk someone when ALL you have of them is a tiny little pic.

I don't have one. It's my civic duty to not post it. Last time I posted it somewhere I received tons of e-mails asking to remove it. Seems people all over the world began having horrible nightmares and proclaiming to see dead people.

honestly I don't have a pic up just because I'm lazy. Hence my username "giant sloth" ;)

haha, thats how i always do it, except for the one i have now, i took in a mirror, it had lyrics on it, and was photoshopped weird for my xangalike a year ago. lol.

i'm pretty good at just turning it around, what i do when i don't have any other subjects to take pictures of, and need SOMETHING.

Actually you have my tribal name. It is American Horse. That is good enough. And as for my avatar, it's my thing, not yours, move on.

I should remove mine. I cannot "not smile". All mine are very cheesy. :)
But my dog's so cute, I can't bring myself to remove it.

Move on?
Did you get out of bed on the wrong side, or are you always this cute?

As for me:

Being fat and funny looking everyone would just say "uh-uh-no-way zeros for this guy on every challenge forever and a day". So I use the profile pic for holiday cheer instead.

After the plastic surgery I'll change my profile pic - I'm going for the ernest borgnine look so wish me luck.

Snap, push, and pop! I'm bedazzling.

btw, I like your photo Marj - very nice, don't change it.
