Just out of curiousity [loaded question alert!] why are nearly all anime characters white? I went through my vast collection of anime and had trouble finding Asian looking (or at least no-caucasian) looking characters and had great difficulty doing so. Anyone know/have ideas? |

Ever heard of Sailor Moon? They're Japanese.
Yes, Cosplay is big here in Japan, and so is Anime, of course, which is a Japanese word derived from "animation".

I'm sorry. I should have been more clear about that. I meant Japanese looking. Sailor moon is not Japanese looking:

If they were it would look more like this:

or this:

Big Sailor Moon fan are you? That's just the eyes they stick on everything. Even their anime dogs have those big eyes.

Whatever, dude. If you don't like them being called Caucasian, then let me say it this way: They look much closer to being Caucasian than they do Asian. How many white, natural blonde Japanese do you know? Not very many I bet. |

Cool shots. I bought a PS one and a Dreamcast just to play the Resident Evil games. When they switched to only GameCube I was disappointed, but resisted in buying that system too.

There's this one called Thalisar...no. I was asking because of the ethnicity implications. I mean, wouldn't a culture make its cartoon characters look like the people of that culture? For what reason would they make them white? The Japanese were traditionally anti-Gaijin, I believe it's called, weren't they? It's just interesting to me and I thought that some hardcore anime lover out there might have had the same question and been more successful at getting it answered, that's all. |

interesting. . .i like the movie for entertainment value, but not on a cinematic level. . .certainly not on a "dress up like it" level. lol.
I think the third shot is the closest as well, it is darker and has more grit. Was this like a documentary on these people, understanding them and why they do it or a movie promo thing? I'm just trying to understand the basis of the shoot. .
btw. . did they introduce themselves with their Real names or did they stay in character? |

The Japanese have always favored white skin. Look at their Geishas.

Ada Wong is a character from Resident Evil. She is the womean pictured with the Red Gown on. Although the woman in the photo is caucasian the real character is oriental. |

That is not Alice in the photo. If you are familiar with the Video game, the girl in the photos above with the school dress is called Ashley, the presidents daughter who was kidnapped by a cult leader. |

I thought about that. The Kabuki dancers had white makeup, too, as I recall. Where does that come from? I should probably do some serious research on it. |

well from what i've learned, in the chinese culture, the paler you were the more it signified how well off you were. only the rich could stay indoors and under umbrellas all day while the working class had to work in the fields and became tanned. dont know if the same holds true for japanese culture.
