I'd appreciate whether this works for anyone. I like it, of course, but I'm still learning what others like. Suggestions welcome too.
This time I'll leave it open as to what it really is.
I call it "Firebird". Not to be mistaken with firefox. ;) Hmmm, perhaps Phoenix is a better title.
Thanks in advance. I haven't had much time to spend here--I've had to go back to doing real work on my late night stints...and I haven't entered a challenge in what seems like eternity--but I am going to try to get something in for the free study. But most of all, I miss the time spent in the forums here! I am sure I'll have more time to spend here (at least nights) this summer!
Here's the photo:
Firebird (or Phoenix):
All honest comments, pro/con, love/hate, welcome!
Best Regards to All--Neil |

Hi Neil. I am generally a fan of your abstracts. It is nice to see your work.
While the composition is interesting in this shot, after the mention of the Phoenix, I see a chicken. (So I am voting no on that title. Ha :)
I also tend to think of abstracts for practical use as something to display on my walls to complement my home. The colors in this will limit its use for that purpose. I could however see a series of these used as decoration in a high end bar and grill type of establishment.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it reminded me of this DPC cult classic....

Thanks Darlene. I see what you're saying.
And Ben, your right. When I first opened the thread, I thought you had rotated my shot! LOL! |

I'm a fan of abstract photography and appreciate your pic. Do not like the title. Both title suggestions are rather cliche. You might find the right name for this could take longer than all the work done taking and working on the piece.Perhaps look into words and ideas that are synonyms of fire ie. pyro. Or something heat related - even looking at fire and heat as a verb rather than a noun. You need a title that makes people take a good look or makes them think . . . or dream.
Sorry to ramble, but I don't have much negative to say about the work itself. Like the idea someone suggested - a series.
I did notice your absence. Hope to see more of your work back in the challenges soon. |

Just took a look at some of the others in your portfolio. Really really like Evidence of life 3# and Passion |

This one isn't working for me anywhere near as well as your other abstracts do. It seems to be flaunting itself, if that makes any sense? It's kind of a "look at me!" imnage instead of a "contemplate me..." image, if you know what I mean?

Thanks Lynn and Robert.
Robt: Well this one is more "dramatic" in colors, so I can see where that's coming from. The colors are shifted, so perhaps I'll play with it again and see if something more subtle works. There's something about the motion blur in the original which works for me--I just didn't like the original colors.
Lynn: I think you're right. And titles are always difficult for me. And thanks for your comments about Passion and Evidence of Life. I like those as well, and I sold two copies of Passion yesterday (first buyer of that image, thanks to whomever it was!)

I think, perhaps, the drama of the colors is ovberwhelming the motional aspects of the composition. It's like they're competing, and the end result is somewhat static.
