I wouldn't mind having a photo of a Rubber Ducky and 5 grapes on my portfolio at *all* :)

Hey, I just want a second ribbon, if it means I will have a rubber ducky with 5 grapes on my profile page then so be it, lol... I think im beginning to sound really desperate.

I desperately need a blue ribbon to round out my collection. Alas.. I'm simply not the marketable kind of photographer that one needs to be to blue ribbon on this site.

NotReuter's One Hour Ago:
Two young entreupeneurs, known only as D & L, bought all the stock in Rubber Ducks today, shortly before the announcement of a photographic contest involving Rubber Ducks. Anoymous sources stated there were also rumors of the 2 entreupeneurs attempting to buy out the grape market, but Ernest & Julio Gallo held fast to their stock thus preventing a total hostile take-over in the grape commodities.

One local stock analyst stated "Should it be found that these two individuals were involved in a conspiracy of any kind, they could easily be the next Martha Stewarts".

Anyone else think it's weird it says "Extra Rules: Failure to meet the challenge should result in DQ." or am I just reading into things too much?

I think it's an April Fool's joke. Does anyone remember what they did last year for April Fools? Everyone's scores dropped precipitously overnight by at least a full point. No one understood how that could happen, and they waited till April 2 to inform everyone that it was a joke and our full scores were reinstated.

I got a plastic duck, 6 green grapes and 1 red. The wife has just complained that I got water all over the kitchen table and it shorted out all the lights. SO I will not be entering this challenge.

Here's one of the many threads from back in April 2004 that shows the kind of pranksters D&L are. 8 members in total had to be hospitalized because they suffered heart attacks when they saw their scores plummet the next morning. :)

Doesn't matter if the whole thing is a practical joke or not, I'll be submitting. If it turns out that the joke is everyone getting DQd.. whoopie do, so a half-hour or so of my day was all about having a little fun. I could do worse, and I'll have made an amusing photograph.

If the joke is simply a funny challenge, then great. This site needs a little humor injected into it. It can get *far* too serious.

Though the joke did in fact happen last year, I'm not being serious or vindictive. I was joking about the 8 members and trying to be light hearted. I'm sure D&L have something entirely different in store for us this year. Sounds like it to me, anyway. Enjoy.

Do you think anyone would mind if I put Woody in the photo too?
04/01/2005 02:11:47 AM · #42
They would if I put my Woody in.
04/01/2005 02:21:23 AM · #43
I'm going outside the box on this one ... I'll be using a real duck, and then neatimaging it to death so that it looks rubber :P

Edit: too early to be typing, need another coffee.

I love it when D&L drop acid before coming up with new challenges like this. The problem is that I have a rubber ducky, some water, 3 light sources and a great blue background, but I only have 4 green grapes. Aaaarrgh!
04/01/2005 02:38:03 AM · #46
It's propably gonna be a loooong work for the SC, Going over all the originals in this challenge:Þ

qoute:You must use an aperture between f/6 and f/10 (for typical point and shoot camera.

Funny!
So i would get DQ if i would use f/5. Right ?

Hmmmm... This is gonna be intresting.
04/01/2005 03:21:05 AM · #47
And how are they gonna know if you in fact used 3 light sources?

I don't think my pet dog will give up her rubber ducky. Sounds too good to be true... Already there are 4 submissions. How can I change my red grapes to green ones?

I'll lie in bed thinking about this and dreaming of rubber duckies chasing me spitting out grapes.....

I am back from Wal-Mart, and after half an hour of searching I (and the gang of 5 associates I roped into the search), I have my rubber duck and 5 green grapes. We were quite the site to see, all six of us combing through every isle in the store in search of a yellow rubber duck.

We found ducks, but they were plastic instead of rubber
-- then found a yellow pelican that might have passed for a duck from behind, but didn't want to get DQed
-- one of the associates even found a rubber Hummer and tried tried to give it to one of the female associates for her bathtime fun, but that was just wrong on so many levels
-- finally, nearing the point of despair, an actual yellow rubber duck was found.

And we all rejoiced! ;)

So if you don't have all the components of this image you get DQd?

Then I guess we should take all of the guidelines litterally? It states "one rubber ducky on a blue background", not "in front of a blue background".

It also says nothing about the rubber ducky being yellow.
