I was out having some fun last night shooting in the fog. One of my few images that is water spot free. I experimented cropping in different ways and wanted to get some others opinions on which they like better. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I prefer no 2 but i feel that you also need to crop some off the bottom as well..

or no 1 and take some off the right

#1 with some cropped off to the left (use tree to frame left), some off the bottom (use row of rocks to frame bottom, grass in foreground is distracting), and some off the right (like how you cropped on #2).

No2 seems best to me (with Artans' crop suggestion) and a slight rotation to the left.

I prefer number one!Very nice,so mystical(love the greenish colour too):)

the lights of number one take away from the nature feeling, they are overwhelming plus give away the light effect
my chioce number 2

What do you want people to notice, the creek or the lights. If it is the creek, the lights are too much competition..

Are the lights even interesting in number one, or are they just a distraction from the rest of the image?

#1 because the creek leads the eyes towards the top of the frame where there is room for the eye to wander.

Hmmmmmm... tough question. Both are super good and have their unique qualities.

For example, the one on the left has that nice tree branch and lights that adds interest to the composition. But then the one on the right cuts off the uninteresting right side detail to make a more interesting framing that almost matches the rule of thirds. That is very clever.

Then again, the one on the left makes you ask the question, "Is the creek natural or man-made"?

But then the one on the right makes you ask,"Is the fog real or did that lying, cheating photographer do it in Photoshop"?

But the left one begs the question, "Did the photographer put those lights there on purpose, or are they alien spacecraft from another world"?

And you could go on and on... :) :)

Yeah, they are both darn good pictures! You should be pleased.

Thanks steve. You bring up an important point not to forget; every image has its own mystique and each will speak in different ways to different people.

I like 1. I like seeing the source of the reflection in the water. Just MHO.

I also like #1

#1 with some additional tweaking. In particular, rotate to left to level the "horizon" at the top. Crop closer to tree on left. Experiment with cropping out some of the foreground, and possibly a tad off the top.

Robt.
