Nice capture. Compositionally I think it is generally better to leave space in the photo in the direction the subject is looking when possible. It think you have too much unnecessary distraction from your subject here as well. I took a stab at it. Hope you don't mind.

Keep in mind the image quality has suffered due to resizing such a small image. You might try something like this with your original. In addition to the crop, I rotated to level the birds stare a bit, bumped up the saturation a little, and lightened the catchlight a bit.

Very nice shot...for my pea brain (easily distracted) there seems to be a lot going on in the shot. I may have used a tad bit tighter crop...the stump and the background although secondary are somewhat over bearing. Just my thoughts.

I like the first two, the fence detracts from the last one!

Use this pic in a class for DOF, look at the railing it is standing for lines of DOF...love it.

fwiw, generally, the more you can fill the frame, the more likely you are to capture "expressions" of the subject. Some shots require the subjects surroundings included into the frame as that is what you (the photographer) are trying to convey. However, once I started "filling the frame" with the subject, I began to like my wildlife photos more.

For your consideration.

Good shot. I think I'd crop it closer. And then clone out, or darken, the droppings so they are not such an attention grabber.
