Just wondering if I could get feedback on a photo I took at a 1st birthday party yesterday. Birthday girl in question:

Constructive comments appreciated!

I have a few issues I'm not totally satisfied with - but will keep those to myself to not sway the replies. Thank you!!

I only see 2 things wrong with this picture, there is way too much flash so you need to adjust that in photoshop, but the other thing photoshop can´t fix is that the girl looks way to much to the left so the white of her eye becomes too visible, you should have called her name just before shooting :)

The child's hair seems to melt into the dark background!

What bothers me is the object that is in the background that seems to be growing out of the babys head. It works for a snap shot though. You really have to pay attention to what is in the background. Remember you are taking a 3D scene and making it 2D in a print.

Given that it's not always easy to take nice photographs inside when there is not a lot of available light, I think you did a nice job. What I personnally like a bit less is the tiny bit of red eye (or the reflexion of the flash in her eye) and the hair that are lost in the background. I like the fact that you are not distracted by anything else because your background is dark, so we can focus on her without hesitation. Hope this helps.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. Like I said - I had a few issues with this shot - but didn't think of all that was mentioned.
It was a quick shot - not planned or thought out. Unfortunately, the baby has short attention span and there were so many people and things at her party she kept turning away. I did call her name but by the time my camera she had looked away at something more interesting (a major limitation to my camera).

I was not happy with the hair blending into the background - though, I thought that was not so major as a distracting background. So I darkened it to get rid of all the "stuff". I did think the lighting was on her face and outfit were pretty good (and her face stood out pretty well) - but I did lighten it a bit and increase contrast in PS.

Here is an updated version where I tried to darken the area above her head (thing growing out of top of her head) and I also cloned her eye to get rid of the flash reflection.
An improvement?
