With this style, and the high contrast between the dense branches and snow, make the photo hard to focus on. The growth almost looks like noise at this size. I am sure this photo looks great in full size, but scaled for DPC it loses a lot of the qualities I would have liked about it.

I like the background forms of the needles but your main subject, which I presume is the cone, is a bit out of focus.

You don't get a good grasp of the snow. I think a high ISO and a speed of about 1/500, and the smallest aperture you can get is what I would have tried in a situation like this.

Maybe zoom further forward, so you only see water, some sticks sticking out of the water in the foreground, and maybe get some more detail of the trees behind.
