On my Vanityby WildpurpleComment: Critique per your request: The light isn't anything interesting here. The main subject appears to be the brooch. The highlights on it seems a little overexposed, so it loses detail. Most of the remainder of the image is out of focus, so there really isn't anything for the viewer's eye to grab onto. |

Bad day to fly by LevTComment: I didn't vote in this challenge, but noticed this on the front page. I was curious how wide a lens you used, as I have also submitted a photo or two from an airline seat and had to go very wide. I recently bought that 12-100 myself. Even used, it is the most expensive lens I have purchased. I hadn't thought the manual focus clutch would be a big deal, but it really came in handy in diminishing evening light when the camera could not easily lock focus. |

Back and Frontby WildpurpleComment: Critique per your request: I can tell you were trying to use some nice soft evening light coming in the window, and you used the better camera (I also have an EM10 Mk2, though it is now my backup body after buying an EM5 mk3.) The lighting looks a bit weird here and I think that is what hurt it. Strong shadows that put an edge on your subject instead of it being soft and pleasing. Perhaps this was actually shot at night, so the light coming in is harsh lights from outside instead of soft and pleasing sun. Also shot at ISO 1600, though the EM10 should be able to handle that without any visible noise at this viewing size.
I see I gave it a 5 in the challenge. Message edited by author 2023-03-17 00:48:42. |

Still Lifeby WildpurpleComment: Critique per your request: I like this and I see I gave it a 6 in voting. For me that means I liked it but it didn't blow me away or have strong personal appeal. Nice colors.Perhaps what kept it in the mid 5's is that it wasn't abstract enough. I see my own entry in this challenge, which I really like, didn't quite hit that magic 6 either.
I like to do abstracts, but they don't tend to have mass appeal. They do better when it is an abstract themed challenge topic. When I enter an abstract in a non-abstract challenge, I don't expect it to do anywhere near the top. |

Purpleby WildpurpleComment: Critique per your request: The edge of the flowers against the background is harsh and I'm not sure the selective color works for this, though I see what you were trying to highlight by using it. Selective color is tricky and I don't do it often. I think I have just one photo of mine in my personal faves that I did selective color on. |

Woodenby WildpurpleComment: Critique per your request: There' a lot of nice detail in this wood. I think some higher contrast and maybe some minor clarity adjustment could help to bring that out. |

Playing My Recordsby WildpurpleComment: Critique per your request: This one appears a bit grainy and soft. I see you shot this with your Coolpix L30, not the EM10. Aperture is wide open and the ISO is raised to 400 because you were shooting in low indoor light. For a camera like that, those settings account for the softness. I'd bet if you shot this with your EM10, it would have performed well enough with the lens wide open that you could have gotten some of the finer details of the record grooves to show. Playing with the angle of the light could also do some interesting things reflecting on the record. |

Winter Pacific by LevTComment: Looks like he is racing the pelicans! The subject isn't grungy, but the texture is. That works, and I really like the shot. |
