Hello! You have requested a comment from the critique club:

First Impression/Opinion: while it definitely fits the challenge, i am at first distracted by the furniture before i even look up to see the light! the shadow on top of the ceiling is cool though! i don\'t see a definite clear subject

Composition: there seems to be two main subjects here that are fighting for attention your wife and the light. a different angle may have helped get one or the other the main focus. The furniture seems to be cluttering up the image also.

Post Processing: i see a yellowish color tint to the image. I don\'t know if that was intentional but i think black and white may have been a better choice. More contrast may have made those shadows give more impact also.

Challenge Criteria: definitely fits the challenge

good luck on your future challenges!

Hello! You have requested a comment from the critique club:

First Impression/Opinion: there is a lot going on here. my eyes are kind of drawn all over the place. The lens flare is also not helping you in this image. I think if you were able to zoom in on just the two main statues it would have improved your image drastically.

Composition: A tighter crop would have helped draw the viewers eyes to the main subjects (statues). i think maybe even a horizontal shot may have helped also to draw the attention right where is should be, because i find myself looking at the lower half of the shot which has nothing really visually appealing.

Post Processing: If it were my image i would have added a lot more emphasis on the sky! those clouds have a lot of potential to be breathtaking! A black and white version of this may have been interesting to see as well.

Challenge Criteria: fits the challenge.

My Vote: I gave this image a 6 during voting

Good luck on your future challenges!

Hello! You have requested a comment from the critique club:

First Impression/Opinion: WOW! if you were going for the 'freak people out' factor you sure nailed it here! what an unexpected image for this challenge! this is a really raw, intriguing shot, and also not something we see here on DPC every day! I keep looking at the image trying to decide how i feel about it. I think you have created a successful photograph here because 1) it gets a reaction out of people and 2) it gets people thinking. congratulations on that!

Composition: I would have chosen a tighter crop on the person and not so much emphasis on the door. it is a lot of wasted space that could have been taken advantage of (especially with our size restrictions.)
Actually maybe even a horizontal image may have had a stronger impact on the viewer here? Also you said in your photographer notes that you wanted the background to be cluttered and messy.i think maybe a cleaner background would have given more attention to the subject, it is a little distracting.

Post Processing: like i said before this shot gives off a very real and raw feeling so i think i prefer the processing how it is, it seems like this is happening before my eyes! no fancy processing is needed!

Challenge Criteria: it does fit the challenge.

My Vote: I did not vote on your image, i would have given it a 6 or 7

Placement: you were well aware of what you were getting yourself into when submitting this shot! haha. But for a shot like this a 4.2 was probably expected. Don't let the voters get you down though, this is not a run of the mill photograph!

Hello! You have requested a comment from the critique club:

First Impression/Opinion: My first thought when looking at this image was this is a lovely abstract image. the blur is nice, but i can still tell that these are trees and the sun is shining through. This shot gives a very calm feeling.

Composition: i like the feeling of movement here, nice motion blur.i can understand why one commenter said that there is no focal point. I agree that there isn't really a strong subject standing out in this shot, but i don't think it is necessary in my opinion.

Post Processing: i like the black and white, i can't imagine it looking better in color (it would be too distracting). the contrast is good, obviously for this particular challenge you are going to have blown out highlights thanks to the sun! :) i think it is appropriate under the circumstances.

Challenge Criteria: fits the challenge.

My Vote: I gave this image a 7 during voting :]

Placement: 4.8 is low in my opinion, but somewhat expected for a shot like this, although this is a very artistic image, it is not a typical ribbon winner shot. The lack of strong subject is what hurt you here i believe. also not everyone is a fan of motion blur!

Hello! You have requested a comment from the critique club:

First Impression/Opinion: My first thought when looking at this image was WOW! look at that sky, then hmm why are all those tangled power lines in the way? It seems to me that the main subject here is the sky. I think partially you got voted down because of it in this challenge. A slightly lower angle may have helped get those power lines more attention. The colors in this sky are beautiful!

Composition: visually interesting. You have the two sides of leading lines leading to the powerline pole. i\'m glad you chose to take the shot with it in the lower corner rather than the center, that keeps things interesting. But the tangle of dark power lines are very distracting in the left corner.

Post Processing: it doesn\'t seem that you did too much work editing this, even though it was an advanced editing challenge. There isn\'t much more i can say here about the post processing the details in the sky are very clear, and i\'m assuming it was intentional to create silhouettes with the powerlines.

Challenge Criteria: completely fits the challenge!

My Vote: i did not vote in this challenge, but would have given a 6.
