at last it loaded - it seems dark, like the whites are grey, not white. And the focus is off. The pills should be in focus , no the arm hairs. Move back and then crop in if your camera won't focus so close. The spotlight is also off, the pills ned to be lit for be the center of attention, not the ball of the thumb. However, ignoring the tecnical flaws, it is a powerful image, beatifully composed. 8 for effort.

Tough lighting situation. The shaded areas are a little underexposed and you should get a polarizing filter to cut down on that water glare. You should have gone back later in the day for more even lighting. I like the composition. It's an interesting view with the angles. Overall, a few technical problems and the subject doesnt have a lot of emotional pull with me, but it's an attractive pic and a nice little view into your world - very Euro. ~indi

Comment by Kavey:
The deep blackness surrounding the light and the way it only illuminates it's own base and the area directly below it makes this quite an atmospheric shot.
Personally I'd like the extra space to be at the right rather than left of the frame, and I am not sure I like the very yellow colour tone, this coming from someone whose favourite colour is yellow. I also find the refleftions in the base distracting, I am trying to work out what they are - that draws me away from the object itself.
I realise this may be deliberate.

This is a superb shot technically; the lighting and exposure are spot on and itís great use of macro. But, I think that the composition lacks something. It seems to me like everything in the shot merges together taking the eye away from the central theme. On the positive side, itís an interesting and well thought out imageÖ Good luckÖ

Not being familiar with Wharfs, I looked this up and I think I found a site related to this Canary Wharf. It helped me to understand exactly what I was looking at and realized that this is probably an escalator. At first I thought it might be a bit dark, but when I tried lightening it up a bit, I noticed that it looked like there was someone standing in the large dark strip to the left and figured you darkened it up a bit to make that person kind of dissapear. I also notice lots of people over on the far left. That's why I thought it was an escalator. Hard to tell though without being able to see the individual stairs in the dark vertical grooves. The roof/ceiling is beautiful. I bet it casts some really cool shadows when the suns just right. This is a nice angle. Good shot and good luck in the challenge.

Abandoned Stairwell?

Comment by floyd:
Interesting viewing angle - really draws the eye down to the bottom of the stairwell and holds it there. It's a little gloomy but that's obviously down to the location - not much you could do with that. Some strange blockyness on the red rail in the top right corner. Seems to be because it's against the gridwork metal floor. Nothing to do with your camera or processing - just an odd optical effect I think.

Beautiful photo. Being processed in B/W enhances the mood a lot. The only thing I might mention would be that the building visually appears to be a tiny bit off vertical. If you used wide angle, and thus would have prespective problems you might have tried to make the near corner of the main, tall building the vertical line, as that's the one that your eye goes to right away.

I'd prefer not to have the cutting off of the envelope...also try more light to produce a darker more vivid shadow...looks like you might have two ro three light sources too. Try 1 bright one.

This is a good example of a photo that you need to look at for a few minutes. Almost an optical illusion here (was that intentional?); if I look just right the entire image looks like a solid gray object, with the envelope forming a cutout....

Comment by FranziskaLang:
I like the title, the placement of the envelope (both being on its side and in the photo), but I would've liked a little more contrast (which may not have been possible w/out blowing the white of the envelope) and a just a tad more defined shadow.
