This is a great shot. It transcends the 'family photo album' tag because of the deft composition and the capture of a great expression. I love the dirt on her hands. The choice of B&W combined with the classic fashion of her rainhat puts this in the realm of timelesness.

Don't hesitate to offer up more photos of your kids if they are this well done.

Sorry I didn't see this during the voting.

I like the contrast of the yellow strips against the blue. I wonder if coming in even closer to the chairs would improve this? Or perhaps placing the chairs off to the side of the frame more?

Technically and compositionally there isn't anything wrong here. For me a shopping list holds holds zero interest. When taking pictures for public consumption it's helpful to pose a few questions.

What is about this image that I find compelling enough to shoot?

Will a stranger be likely to be as interested as I in this subject?
If not, is there a way to comminicate enough of my feeling for the subject in a photograph to provoke an emotional response in an objective viewer?

Can I present this mundane subject in a way that transcends the everyday and creates a visually dynamic impression on the viewer--enough to make him/her come back for another look?

I can't tell what I'm looking at. There isn't really anything for me to connect to in this image. There not anything particularly striking about this as an abstract. It just makes me wonder what the photographer was thinking when this was shot. Something must have grabbed your interest but this image doesn't offer any clues.

This looks overexposed and it lacks fine detail. If the lantern was your subject more of the background should have been eliminated. This would best be achieved by getting in closer and finding an angle of view that places the subject against a simple background. In this case you may have been able to find a viewpoint that eliminated the windows, leaving just the stones to add context to the main subject. The biggest problem in terms of composition for me is the strip of blown out sky that can be seen at the top.

This would have benefited from tighter framing and a lower angle of view. The flower looks a bit lost in its surroundings and the dew drops haven't been captured with quite enough drama or interest for me.

Nice view and good capture of the reflection. It doesn't wow me though. I think the vertical framing gives it a crowded feel. A horizontal (landscape) frame would have created more of a feeling of expansiveness that this subject needs.

Interesting subject matter. It looks a bit overexposed. A lot of the textural detail is lost and that is really the main visual interest in a subject like this.

It's an interesting item but this is a rather sterile composition. The sepia seems to be an attempt to add warmth and a vintage-y feel to the subject but with this rather literal point-of-view and empty background it's just 'blah' to me.

The focus could be much sharper for this subject. Although the background is blurred it still contains distracting elements which hurt a flower shot, IMO. Particularly bothersome is the band of green in the lower right corner. My eye keeps wandering to that area. The leaves behind the petals create distracting verticals that don't enhance the subject for me. When I shoot flowers I like to eliminate as much distracting detail as possible, concentrating soley on the petals. This usually requires a closer crop and getting right on the ground and shooting up.

This is fairly ho-hum to me in terms of subject matter and composition.
