Comment by trevytrev:
Nice portrait, the eyes really pop. I don't see any harsh shadows so I don't think thats really an issue.

You teach me that eye contact is important and overcomes many difficulties when taking portraits.

I think you have done a pretty good job with lighting here. Your thought on a reflector (or any white board or paper for that matter) towards the right side is a good idea.

She has an enchanting and delightful smile! I like the pose you captured and in my opinion you're doing pretty well with the lighting. There are a lot of good portrait folks here on DPC - I'm sure they can give you some excellent advice.

Jeff, she is precious! I think you did a great job. I'm trying to figure out the best location to place lights too. So I hope some of the portrait wizards, like Sonifo, will chirp in and offer their 2-cents. I'll be checking back on this one.

But I think this looks gorgeous just as it is too. I think TWMax may be right too. A total lack of any kind of shadows may make a portrait look a little flat.

As for me, I still stick to natural light whenever I can, but I'd love to learn more about indoor lighting.

Like the way her dark hat and dark coat frame her face. Nice pose. Eyes are nice and sharp, wonder if selectively sharpening up nose/cheek freckles just a tiny bit would be useful.
