Anyway, before you convert, try duplicating the layer and hitting it with a multiply or soft light blending mode to see if it cuts down on the haze. You may want to leave out the foreground and just do the rest if it gets too dark. Then you can "brighten" a bit, then convert.

Will try that myself Melethia - thanks for the tip :)

Nice one Jeff, until I read your notes I thought it was a crop of one image. Now you made me look for the joins! looks like 5 portrait shots stitched? I can make out the first join (just) in the sky.

Great spot, it must have been an awesome sight first hand and well worth the trek.

First thought is that one gets up early for a shot like this, and sees in a wonderfully different light: the boat is dark and graceful on the still water while the yachts are moored in the distance, a bare thought or suggestion, and right before us at our feet the shore and a convenient ladder to which is tied the boat in which we might or might not motor to one of the yachts. Second thought is that the dark outer frame is a good foil for this mostly light picture and brings out the boat, though I am thinking of it as a wider matting should it be printed and framed. The faint details all on the horizon make this picture, pull us out.

Excellent shot Jeff, your username makes more sense now lol. I can only think of a little more sharpness/contrast on the boat and foreground to improve this shot - I love it.

Good shot, and good comments on it. I hate doing artificial lighting (I can never get it right), it's a good thing to work on. For me, the right arm position (in the lower left of the shot) is distracting, and I'm not sure what it adds to the pose.

The tones work well here with the composition, drawing us to the horse. I love the inclusion of so much context and that you avoided any temptation to crop this closer.

Note to self: Must go to Upstate NY for beautiful photographs!

Oh, Hi Jeff! Beautiful scene! It looks great in black and white with the muted gray tones as you get closer to the back. That lake goes on forEVER!

Beautifully delicate - love how it fades out towards the back right. For my taste, the frame is much too heavy for this soft image.
