My 2nd challenge is my second highest rated photo, and my third challenge is my third highest rated photo, so I guess I would have to go with my first ever challenge, which scored 6%. Judging will not be as strait forward, as the subjects will all be different, so I would suggest the original challenge title should be included in the title, may be the date as well, re-shooting the same scene, could be difficult for some, even impossible, taken on holiday for instance, or a building that has since been demolished, is there a way round this, in my case the first challenge, scored low, because of the chosen subject, I would still give it a go though, try and get it from a different angle, be fun I think.

The lighting is bland and the subject matter is not compelling

Picture was taken way too low... the lines don't converge enough... it's more of a vanishing "line" than a vanishing point kinda picture.

Nothing spectular, no real point of interest in photo. The vanishing point is not super clear either.

Greetings from Critique Club

Hi my name is Leroy. I am here in response to your request for an indepth critique of this photo.

First Reaction (the most important one)
For sports photos, in my opinion, the capture of a subject interacting with the ball is crucial. It gives clues to what he/she is doing and not just someone running. You have captured that here, well done. I do wish you had some interaction with other players though. The other player in the scene is more of a distraction than an asset to the image.

Lighting
Lighting is mostly even, it's a little hot on the players shoulders and back, but that to be expected. You did well keeping his face from going too dark.

Composition
The comp feels a little tight to me. The player has nowhere to go. The comp would be stronger if the player wasn't centered and instead had room to run in front of him.

Also, as I mentioned earlier the player in the background is a bit of a distraction.

Focus and other Technicals
Other technicals look good to me, although the grass seems a bit noisy.

Meeting the Challenge
Meets the challenge well.

How to grow its score
Composition is a bit week and for DPC the shot lacks that all important WOW factor.

Conclusion
It's a good capture. In any local paper the shot is well enough executed to be included in the sports section. For DPC though, it lacks ummmph.

This critique is strictly my opinion based on observations of this photo. If you have any questions feel free to contact me through the DPC PM system.
