Still Seven Vertebraeby RhinoStarComment by RhinoStar: Originally posted by Melethia: How in the world did you get this shot? The detail on the eye is excellent - I never knew giraffes had such beautiful eyelashes. Thanks for sharing a perspective most don't get to see! |
Since a couple of people took the time to ask--this shot was taken at a drive-through park in TX where the animals are free roaming. I was in one of the park's open air trucks and I snapped the photo as this guy pulled his head away to much the food we'd given him. I have lots of zoo-type shots, so on this trip I was trying to make my shots more interesing. Glad a few folks appreciated it! Thanks!
On a side note, giraffes have very long, thick eyelashes to protect their eyes from acacia tree thorns while they eat the leaves. Neat, huh?! (degree in wildlife biology ) |

Still Seven Vertebraeby RhinoStarComment by DefyTime: Little bit dark around the eye...maybe if you did a flash it would help...but if you were using a telephoto it might not help out that much and also might cause the guy to stampede. |
