Post-Game Band Abduction

Technically, this is an OK shot (lighting/contrast/focus good), but it still leaves me a bit flat, if you'll pardon the pun :-) Having all the instruments makes the scene a bit busy, and there's not anything to really hold my attention, despite the pop of the contrast. Of course, having played in the band myself, I know that the people haven't gone home without their instruments, so this barely meets challenge ;-)

Not a bad shot, even though having the players in it means it doesn't meet the challenge. There is a real sense of place/time in this for me, and the candidness of the subjects fits nicely. The people in the background don't quite fit in the composition for me. I would have been tempted to move the camera to the left to see if I could clean up the background. In PP, I think I would have gone for a bit more contrast (cloudy sky that day?)

A decent try on a tough challenge. While clearly meeting the challenge and competently executed, there's not much in this shot to capture my attention. I understand that the lighting was out of your control, but the foreground comes off a bit muddy, which lessens the impact for me.

Not being familar with wherever this was taken, there's nothing in this picture that indicates sports to me, although if this is outside a stadium, clearly there are some people who haven't gone home yet. I would have liked to see a bit more contrast, as the whole image looks washed out to me. It looks to me as if the whole image is canted down to the right a bit, which I find distracting.

Ode to Keg Cups

For me, there isn't anything in this shot that says "game" or "sporting venue". The cups in the street could just as easily be outside a frat house. Compositionally, I like the way everything lines up, although I would have been tempted to remove the box and the bit of cup in the upper left, as I find them distracting. Processing on this must have been touch, since the cups are so saturated (over, in some spots) and the rest is so bland.

The lines in the grate and in the seats conflict and become distracting to me. I'd like to see more contrast between the silhouette and the underside of the seats, since it is hard to distinguish between the two. I can't quite decide whether the person DNMC or not, since there's no one visible in the venue itself.

Overall, I'm not really bowled over by this, although due to the tough challenge, I'm trying to overlook that. The high contrast really makes this image pop and gives a nice first impression. After that, though, my eye has a hard time figuring out what to look at since the whole image is essentially diagonal lines. For this challenge, quite nice, but it leaves me feeling a bit flat.

I love this shot! When I first looked at it, I got the impression of a quiet day, perfect weather, etc., but the I noticed the two people by the water, and the scale hit me like a ton of bricks. The lines work well, pulling my eye all around the water and then back to where I discovered the people. I particularly like the sunlight and distance haze on the hills in the distance. The image just screams "quiet isolation" to me.

I am completely lost when looking at this photo. I know that it is probably a building, from the title and the challenge it was entered in, but I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm looking at. The two brighter things in the big dark thing suggest glowing eyes of a moster preparing to pounce, so the image has a sinister feel to me. I like it. It is an image that I keep coming back to and looking at, trying to make sense of it all.
