I like the angle of the shot and the focus. The blurred track really conveys a sense of movement.

Funny how only one spot appears to be in motion. Hmmm...

Comment by CEJ:
Hmm...it is obvious the train is not moving. The blur looks applied and can be seen in areas next to the wheel that shouldn't be blurry even if the train was actually moving. Also the rail is blurry which again, even if the train were moving, the rail isn't and shouldn't be blurry.

This is very nice. I love the soft glow to it. It makes it looks as if it were painted.

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: Now knowing the dimensions of the image, the focus is obviously on, but the image looks overall noisy to me. The color is strong, but the contrast is a bit too harsh for this particular image. Your settings and setup did a very nice job at yielding some tremendous detail.

Lighting: While you lost no detail on the subject, the background gives the appearance of being washed out. I imagine that you were intentionally using a white background to separate it from the subject, but it provides more distraction than a warmer background would have.

Composition/Content: You hit the challenge with the macro part, though it was not readily apparent during voting, but the abstract was missed. This one looks more like an accidental snapshot than an attempt at abstract. Looking through your portfolio, it is obvious that you are a very strong photographer, and you know what it takes to pull higher votes from DPCers.

My Opinion: karmabreeze hit this one straight on. It isn't abstract, and we have no way of knowing that it is macro. I had similar results with the last abstract macro challenge, and I was also upset. The good news, my scores have been climbing steadily, for the most part, since then. Your work is strong, but this one missed the mark. Keep shooting, and thanks for giving the critique club a chance to look at your work.

Comment by Rebecca:
It was macro, but not obviously so, and not very abstract. An abstract shot tends to be one in which it's not immediately obvious what you are looking at, and this is very quickly obviously a dragon statue. Regarding the macro end of it, you may have known that it was 3" tall, but that's not something we can tell in the photo. There's nothing in the photo to scale it, for one. Also, the white background does nothing for the dragon, and is actually rather dull, like a t-shirt that's been through the wash too many times. The image is a bit flat, with some reflection issues, particularly on the dragon's chest. I think this would have done better on a black background, more dramatic lighting, and a much tighter crop.

well, I didn't vote in this challenge, but if I had I would have told you that it barely meets the challenge, if at all. that's because it is instantly identifiable, despite the challenge description clearly stating that your shot should be an abstract that is not instantly identifiable.
