The housing market is a scary thing these days. Love how you used the color to make the signs stand out in the pic.

I like how the cactus in the middle is a starker black against the high contrast scene. Very nice lines.

This is really fine Louisa. I love the color treatment. I wish the whole cactus were in view, but I think it is nice just as it is.

Great angle. Brings out a long leanness in the cactus. It seems almost corrugated.

Very interesting perspective! I'm thinking that the current DPC challenge had you looking from the ground up which is a wonderful thing. It is always a good idea to look at your subject from these different angles. That is another aspect of DPC that I really like, it teaches you to look at things with these techniques that you might not think of normally.

I love the texture of the cactus and the "softness" of it. It is like you have shown us a diffent side of the prickly old thing.

This is such an interesting photo...you have taken the distracting man made items in this otherwise natural landscape and told a story with it. Compositionally I love the perspective of the diminishing cacti which leads your eyes right to the more peaceful mountains. Very nice shot!

Louisa, this is my favorite of your walkabout photos. I love the s-curve created by the rocks marking the path which leads your eye right to the lone cactus. Although normally I like more foreground in shots like these so that the cactus appears further away and more "lonely" I think your composition works well. You might try it next time though..get lower to the ground and back some more if possible. The sepia tone works very nicely on this and really looks like an old west photo.

Another think I like is the fairly high harsh sun which really creates some great shadows. This would have taken on a completely different feel on a cloudy day with soft light.
