Comment by KarenB:
good eye for seeing this shape in an everyday object. the quality of the photo is suffering from maybe over processing to compensate for a photo that was dark originally? This would have scored high had it been sharp, clear, and undithered. :0(
But.. again.. great eye for framing and seeing something most would have missed!

Couldn't find anything more bright and colorful? Nice subject and well taken photo. The thing I noticed most was the light reflections on the yellow in front and the red in the back. Nice shot though.

Critique by Silver Fox

One of my favourite photographs and I got the chance to critique it! I just love the way she’s got her eyes closed!

First of all Kandice, in future I'd like to see some information on your aperture and shutter speeds, to me it’s one of the most important things to keep track of this information and to share it with us. And fill us in as to where you took the photo. Maybe we want to go there one day and cool off with our Sweet Heart! :}smiles

Okay. The Sun looks like it was directly on top of them and that makes it pretty hard to control your lighting, not much you can do about it.

The result is that you end up with the funny looking hazy/lighting behind them.

I think it looks okay, but the other problem you run into here with this photo is: see the tree branches growing out of his sweetheart’s head? That’s a “no no.”
Either move them around a bit, or move yourself around a bit to avoid this in future. Okay?

You have good composition and you have your subjects in a good pose which shows the love of 18 years between them.

Your focusing is right on with good depth of field.

Did you shoot you camera on Automatic? If on Manual, you could control the exposure yourself much better.

As I said above the visual impact of your photo showed emotion to your viewers and this is what gets you points in a Challenge.

You’ve got good ideas and imagination and all you have to do is keep shooting and keep practicing and shooting and practicing and . . .
most of all have some fun!

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ed

Greetings from the Critique Club!
The colors here are just lovely, and they represent Spring beautifully. The purple background is very nice, but not so much as to be distracting. I am curious about what is the bg comprised of, but that's besides the point. Your depth of field (dof) is good, and sufficient to blur the bg enough to make the subject stand out. A slight improvement would be to have the foreground subject just a little sharper, but it is within the bounds of acceptable in my opinion.
The exposure is good, allowing great visibility of the subject.
The composition is strong, with a good diagonal lead line.
Post processing is fine, with no visible artifacts or noise.
As for meeting the challenge, well....in my mind's eye it's sort of a stretch, and as someone mentioned, a play on words, but it comes in close. I wouldn't personally have consdidered this as a "time" picture for my own submission, but in a very broad sense, it is.
Overall, I like this photo. It's very pretty and you did a good job capturing it. Keep up the good work! :-)
Regards,

Grayce
