Greetings from the Critique Club!

I smiled when I saw this image in voting, and it makes me smile now that it's been assigned to me to critique! Very funky, Lily Tomlin comes to mind here. I love shots like this and am glad you were sharp enough to know a good prop when you saw it, and resourceful enough to hoard sparklies :-) I might have cloned in a few more sparkles on the lower part of the bottom lip. The beauty dish's reflection adds to the glam look you went for. (Should get me one of those.) I like that you let your hair frame your face, and don't see the bg as being too close at all. It would be interesting to see this shot cropped in portrait orientation.

Looks like you had fun, and you entered a shot that you liked, and eh wala 24/113 is a very fine score. You should be proud! Keep on shooting and entering.

Feel free to PM me,

Susan

Cool shot. Very bright and sparkly. Seems like too much of the top of the head is cut off, perhaps it should have all been included?

I really like the colors and the sparkly glasses are cool. The way you used the light in the shades was a neat trick. The processing is good and the only real negative comment is that the square crop really accentuates the length of the womans face. I kind of reframed the shot in my browser cutting off the edge for a more rectangular crop which helped balance the image a bit more.

Bumping to a 9. Only nitpick is the closeness of her to the background, or at least the appearance of it. Maybe the crop is just too tight. Otherwise, top notch. :)

Thanks for the effort, it's not that I don't love shots of pickles on a table (that normally win these contests), but I do really enjoy these types of pictures. There is so much work involved, yet it seems to go unnoticed. One requirement to me is, "Would I put this on my wall?", and this clearly meets that! Nice work.

Thanks so much! I used an SB-600 flash (on a stand just off to camera right) triggered by a Pocket Wizard transceiver. I also velcro'd a warm toned gel over the flash to give it a warmer cast and the set the person apart a little more from the background. :o)
