This particular gym is at the local Junior College. There is a balcony around the top of this that is used as an indoor running track and also has access to the weight room and gymnastics room. The railing at the top is where I mount my two speed lights or strobes depending on what I am using that night. The third used for fill is mounted at the end of the gym I am shooting at. there is a set of roll out bleachers at each end, with a lower white ceiling. I mount that flash so that it bounces off the ceiling and acts as fill light for my two side lights. I do have caution tape that I can place around the area where they are mounted, however access to the upper end is limited by the SID of the college, and the end bleachers are rarely out and when they are i just mount that flash in an area and tape it off so no one messes with it. |

Evilby Luci11eComment: A couple of things about this image bother me. The first thing I notice is the ghosting from using slower shutter speeds and iTTL(I think that is what Nikon calls it) flash. Your ISO is low enough that the flash is essentially your only light. So the preflash it uses to meter the flash actually shows some of the image, and then when the actual flash goes off it records it again so you notice the movement, most notably in the bottom wrestlers head and the legs of both players. The framing of the image bothers me as well. Dead space ahead and cut off feet at the bottom and the legs as well. If you are going to cut off limbs go ahead and go tight with the shot. I don't need to see the behind of the guy in the background. :D
To cure the ghosting issue, you can go full manual with your flash, determine a setting that works with it speed up your shutter a bit and raise your ISO. When I shoot wrestling I go full manual mode on the flash and settings. I generally try to use these settings, and yes I realize they may not work on your camera but gives you an idea of my mindset
1/300(my flash sync speed on both cameras) F2.8-F3.5 depending on which gym I am in, ISO from 3200-5000 again depending on which gym I am in. Flash at 1/8-1/4 power zoomed to 70Meters at 45 degrees with a diffuser on it to spread light more evenly. Stofens is my choice for wrestling, sometimes with a gel under it to match WB settings. Confused yet? I hope not. Let me know if you have any questions. |

WCMS vs Coffee Co130.jpgby Luci11eComment: My critiques and suggestions on this image are two fold. This would not be an image I would submit to the paper, unless it was a key play in the game, IE winning touchdown or interception. And the reason is all I see is his back.
My suggestion is for your placement to be changed. When I get down to that end of the field when the offensive team is at the 35 or 30 yard line(this will vary for each photographer depending on how long or short of a lens you are shooting with) I position myself in the end zone about the middle so I can shoot either side and get the players coming at me with a greater possibility of getting the face. Your timing is pretty good though. |

Dark Riverby ASTONishingComment: Welcome from the Critique Club. I have to be honest, I've been looking over this photo trying to find a flaw, or a way to improve this photo. Honestly with the photo ahead of me I can't offer much. I think the photos final score is pretty well where I would put it. I think you nailed what you were going for. |

A Sexy Angelby albc28Comment: Greetings from the CC. I have read the thread you started on this post, and have looked at it several times before finally writing this critique in hopes that I could help you understand what might improve this image.
I am not fond of the pose, it doesn't flatter your pretty model. Her butt is flat from the pose, and the angle she is looking back just isn't appealing to me. The lighting is especially harsh on her, forget the shadows for a minute, the specular highlights on her nose and forehead are pretty harsh as well as her near shoulder. The shadow isn't near as soft as I'd light it to be and the angle the strobe is at led itself to that, get it up higher and fill with a reflector or another strobe at lower strength, not sure what you are using for modifier, but the light appears small, if it is, get it closer to the subject to give it a larger appearance. You have the model to work with, work on the smaller things and this is a much better photo. |

Thats Enough for Meby SeaStoneComment: Greetings from the Critique Club. I enjoyed my first impressions of your photo. I chuckled at the thought he was pushing himself/herself away from the table(not that any dog I have ever owned would ever do that without nearly bursting first).
Focus is good, the dark areas of the dog are a bit dark and lose detail on the subject, which isn't always a bad thing, but on this photo I think it hurts it. The biggest issue i see with this is the clutter in the background keeps taking my attention off the subject. Perhaps a quick burn down of the brighter subjects and lightening the subject with levels or curves brings this score north of 5. Good luck in future challenges. |

Dec 29 - Heart of silverby hajekaComment: I love the clean background with the nice exposure on what appears to be a very shiny reflective surface. Very good shot. |
