I think it's a good choice of subject, but the pic lacks something that would 'draw me in'. Maybe it's the contrast.

Since I am lacking in technical skills, I cannot give helpful comments. I am strictly a photo buff who is trying to improve, but as to telling you what is wrong or right, I am in no position to say. tough lighting situation here. The bottom petals are a bit blown out, but some of the center features would be lost if you toned it down.

i had a similar entry a while back, and it was suggested to me that i could make the image more dynamic by rotating it to make the line more diagonal, from one corner to the other. i did that, and i made a huge difference...something so simple.

as far as setting up the shot, you might have chosen a more dynamic angle, rather than shooting it almost documentary-style from the side. look for ways to shoot your subject that bring your viewer into the image as a participant.
