Greetings from the Critique Club. The following comments are in response to your request for a critique on your challenge submission. Please feel free to send me a PM concerning my comments.

This image is intriguing. I like the repetition of pattern in the blood and twisting of the thread. Compositionally this is a strong image. I like, too, the selective focus on the head of the needle but think it would be nice to see the sharpness of the needle's point.

Somehow, it seems that that's a lot of blood for a little needle to cause. And I'm not sure about the connection to the challenge subject of hate. It is, perhaps, this ambiguity that kept the image from scoring higher in the challenge...what is the hate? Do you hate sewing? Did you hate yourself and prick yourself repeatedly with this tiny weapon? I'm not sure.

Overall, I like the creativity in this image. It's interesting to look at and slows me down in viewing it to try and figure it out. I'm sorry if my "critique" is short but I'm at a loss to say what should or could be different.

Keep working at it, you've got an interesting vision!

Greetings from the Critique Club

Overall, good technicals. The shot is well exposed, sharp and has good contrast. Your composition could be good but it lacks that something extra. While you don't need to have a subject it does help and here your composition is begging for one. A vanishing point, a figure cast in shadow down the road or something. Instead there is just a quasi end to things but not really as the bridge sweeps further away from view so I'm left wondering what exactly is the point of the angle.

Your title suggest that maybe you want to make this more about the bridge rather than the street but here you only used the bridge as a guide. Perhaps a wider angle would be the ticket. It would give you that subject and maintain the flow of the image.

Looking at some of the comments you've received I disagree that this didn't meet the challenge. It's a street scene and despite not having people in it does contain human elements, which is all that is needed for such a challenge. In fact it's better to hint at something than to be obvious about it but for these challenges it's usually best to go with the latter if you want to score better.

That's pretty much it. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion.

Good close up of the needle's eye. Is this a sharp needle, hard to tell.

This needs a point of interest -- I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at. It also needs some type of human connection to really fit the genre of street photography.

Fantastic shot. The title is perfect and the colour enhances the feeling of lonliness and desolation.

this is a really disturbing and intriquing image. still not sure where the "hate" is in this image, but willing to give you the benefit of the doubt because it certainly does convey malice. - 8
