Surreal, amazing, different....my fav this week. Only thing that bugs me is that the kids are a bit too close to the center of the frame. still a 10

One of my favs this week. The color is brilliant, and the perspective is awesome. I wish there was a bit of color in the sky. Great job nonetheless...good luck :)

Bon Jour Nathalie ;)

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Great detail :)

COMPOSITION:
Perfect, IMO. You managed to balance the shot very nice, even though you used a similar subject as your background. I would simply add a couple more oranges to fill in the white gaps. :)

TECHNICAL:
Your lighting is very good on this shot. There aren't any harsh shadows, and the hot spots on the cut orange actually work nicely to create a sense of taste on the photo. I wish the leaf had been lit a bit more, as the color seems a bit dull. Focus is very good. :)

ARTISTIC:
Very creative on the setup of this shot. I think your cropping is what makes this shot attractive to look at. I love tight crops, so this really works nice for me. Great job :)

OVERALL:
A wonderfuly balanced shot, nicely executed, and deserving of its average vote...well done, congrats!

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges.

Hi Matthes

FIRST IMPRESSION:
nice tonal value

COMPOSITION:
nice enough. I am not too crazy about it looking like it's floating, other than that i sits nice on the frame and the background is very interesting. :)

TECHNICAL:
Your lighting works great on this shot. In fact, IMO, it's perfect. Your DOF sets i nice mood on the shot bringing the attention to the leaf without losing too much of the background. Nice job. :)

ARTISTIC:
I think this shot would have done much better in a different challenge. The interpretation I have of a flower cliche is a 'in your face' full color macro. I think you lost marks by making it sepia tone. BUT don't get me wrong, I think it's a great macro, just not for this challenge. :)

OVERALL:
I superb technically executed shot, that turned out very nice, but maybe just didn't fit in with the challenge.

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges. :)

Hi Jacko (fellow Canuck) ...we meet again :)

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Excellent

COMPOSITION:
perfect...i think it works very nice. Excellent use of the rule of thirds.:)

TECHNICAL:
The focus on that splash is really quite something. The reflection on the top of the drop really makes the shot, IMO. Lighting is very nice, as is the DOF, which blurs out the background...well done :)

ARTISTIC:
Yes, it is a cliche alright, and you managed to pull off a terrific version of it. The use of the chess board (printout) was very creative. :)

OVERALL:
Great shot...looks great next to your blueberry :)

CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB!

Cheers.

Hi Van

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Very snapshot looking.

COMPOSITION:
Very good. Subject placing is good, the only thing I would so is move to the left so that the tiles align with the bottom border (horizontal) :)

TECHNICAL:
I think your low votes came from your technical execution. As soon as you use a onboard flash, you are doomed! This will almost always make it look like a casual snapshot. I suggest you use other lighting (mounted lamp, window, sun) to make your shots more dramatic. Looking at your other photos, I think this was a last minute thing and it's more about the story behind it than the actual photo :|

ARTISTIC:
N/C :)

OVERALL:
I know you can do better...you have done better...CONGRATS ON THE NEW MEMBER OF THE FAMILY!!!!!!!!

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges.

Hi Jens

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Nice sky!

COMPOSITION:
Since there is no 'real' subject in the photo, it's hard to judge the composition. I think you did a great job on the angle of the fence. I would have cropped the bottom a bit to lose the top of the building showing on the bottom right. :)

TECHNICAL:
I think a bit more DOF would have helped the photo. It would make the fence a bit sharper against that brillian sky (not sure if you can control that on your camera or not) Exposure is perfect. Really need that fence in focus though :|

ARTISTIC:
The sky really makes the shot. I hope you tried different angles on the fence and even get more of the fence in. It makes a nice pattern. As for meeting the challenge...sure, there are tons of squares :)

OVERALL:
A solid shot of a solid sky and a fence. Nicely done :)

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges.

Hi Betty

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Wow, 'cool' shot...I thought it was a real bear...doh!

COMPOSITION:
Too centered and cropped IMO. I think that's why you didn't score higher. Because you cropped the 'block of ice' so tight, you lose the square, and therefore some marked you down for that. :(

TECHNICAL:
I tough one to get it perfect. I think you did a good job creating the illusion, but a bit more lighting would have helped. DOF is great, making the bubbles in focus and the bear slightly soft. :|

ARTISTIC:
Your artistic mind was brilliant on this shot. It's too bad that it 'bombed' because of the challenge. If the challenge had been something like 'wild life' this would have been a 10 all the way :)

OVERALL:
A great imaginative shot, well executed...but I can't see a square. ;)

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges.
