| 10/28/2002 05:08:00 PM | Illusions for dummies, lesson 1by jjbeguinComment by emorgan49: it loaded. I think the picture works better than you thought. The snowshow things on the wall and the design on the t shirt and the background around the corner all sort of go to gether and look African, as does the sepia tone. And the ritualistic mask adds to it, ,,,,the mask could have been more ethinic looking, the flash on the wall is too bright as on the left side hand. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 10/14/2002 10:50:00 AM | The gluttony-sloth cycle, a lifestyle.by jjbeguinComment by FranziskaLang: first impression - cute dog, awful looking room. which i suspect is exactly what you wanted to achieve :) challenge - met technical - good. just a very slight tad overexposed on some small parts of the fur, but i know how difficult black or white fur is to shoot, so well done. composition - ok. did you try an alternative by eliminating more of the foreground and including more of the wall? i like the space around the dog because it adds to the photo, at the same i would like to see the dog more in the foreground (i think) 6 -- gr8photos | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/03/2002 09:53:00 AM | white wine on clear glassby jjbeguinComment by jsabbarton: This is a really nice shot overall, but I think that there are a few problems. Firstly, the coat on the back of the chair doesn't work within the context of the shot, in much the same way as the much darker area to the left that merges with said coat; these elements add unwanted conflict to the shot and contrast really strongly with the main subject. It's OK for the model to have the contrasting colour; but the other elements just pull the eyes away. Cropped out, I think this shot would be a lot better. Sorry to add more, but the other point relates to the models pose; it doesn't look natural – you can almost hear the photographer saying, 'No, left a bit more'… Sorry to be so negative. On the plus side, the rest of the shot works really well… (4) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/23/2002 11:57:00 AM | new shoes / no more wineby jjbeguinComment by emorgan49: I'm back like I promised. I love this picture! The only suggestion I would make is to leave a little wine in the bottle. It's friendlier and the red would balance the lower half of the shot which needs a hit of color. The red shoes and the fiesta lights are top heavy colory wise. It is a lovely shot that tells a great story. The shoes, the "older" feet up on the table. The place setting is perfect. All the lines in te photo point of towards the missing lady. She the table cloth lines, the napkins, the legs, all lead the eye and mind to where her face might be. And the upright bottle interrupts that line, being the cause of why the center of interest is actually off the page. Moving this up to a ten, the image has stuck with me all week PS it has a universal appeal because we all know a version of that woman, my friends name is Pauline. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
