Greetings from the Critique Club

Interesting! I haven't seen jousting this close up before, and you really zeroed in.

You know if it was just the head, arm and the weapon, this would be an extroadinary action image. It's unfortunate that the background is so pronounced because it's hard to find the main attraction. A little strategic blurring might have made a difference in the scoring ...

But then, with all the lines and nearly monochromatic colors going everywhere, this (IMO, of course) almost makes it as an abstract.

This one came close, but in a quick look at your portfolio, I see you've got a lot of winners and we all get one of the other kind once in a while.
:-))

Good luck in your next Challenge.

Interesting subject. The composition's good, although I might have cropped off the rightmost part (but that's just opinion). The thing that's going to hurt the most scorewise is the focus. There isn't anything in the shot that's quite in focus. I'm just guessing, but since it's a cloudy day and your subject is moving, you might have needed a bit faster shutter speed. But hey, how many knights in action do we get to see on DPC???

the subject is not clearly in focus, and the background doesnt have enough blur to make the foreground subject stand out. the subject isnt that interesting.. it doesnt have any Wham to it (unless he hits you with that stick hehe). the crop is good tho, the placement of the subject is good.. its just not a strong image for a free study.

Like the tight crop. Needs to be sharper though.

Hello from the Critique Club,

My initial impression when I first viewed this image was "What is the focal point of this image?" The left side of the image has some lawn furniture and the right side has some light/colors that seem interesting. With these competing subjects, my eyes went back and forth trying to find a place to stay a while and explore. You need to decide which part of the image is most important to you and crop accordingly. For me, I would crop off the left side of the image and focus on the light and color and how it plays off the water and grass. I would also crop off all of the ground at the bottom of the image, up to the tall grass currently located at the right lower edge of the image. This tall grass when located at the bottom right corner provided a nice anchor for this scene.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique.

Tim

Nicely done, like the banner of a film company (that does all-woody films). Very expressive model. 8

The creativity aspect using the 35mm film is excellent. I wish the main woody figure was a bit more in focus (less fuzzy). 7.

Great duotone, interesting colours. The sharpness in the negative is great, just my opinion, I'd have liked to have seen this through out the image. The photo doesn't tell a story as cleanly as some of the photos, however taken on purely face value - I like it -6

I love the lighting (color and direction). Composition is strong too. I even like the use of that ribbon-type thing with the images on it. ;-)

I stopped and looked at this one for a while. It's cute. Honestly, I'm trying to figure out what is in the frame(s) of film next to the Woody negative. Probably not your intent. The color cast is also a little uncomfortable. If you're going to shift did you consider blue or even B/W? Sorry, I wish I could put my finger on what isn't pulling this off for me. :( Best of luck to you in the challenge.
