Composition: 6, Centered subject isn't too appealing, but at least you tilted it and gave it a little energy.

Technical: 4, Can't tell if the bug is supposed to really be a part of the picture or not. Doesn't seem to be as sharp as it could have been.

Appeal: 4, Colors are so-so. But what this really lacks is a strong subject. The plant is so large, yet difficult to focus on, that it doesn't seem to be the "focal point" of the image. And yet, if it isn't ... then what is? The bug only confuses the matter because if it was the focal point, then it should have been more in focus.

Challenge: 5, Decent close-up

Overall Calculated Average Score: 5, Middle-of-the-road (not bad, but as good as it could be either)

Good detail and a nice close up shot, but the colors don't jump out at me as much as I would like. I like that you can see a little bug on the right of the plant.

A good thing I always ask myself before I shoot is, "What do I want this photo to be about?" If I can't answer that question, I must rethink the shot. I know you can say, "This is about all the neat things going on in St. Louis." But if that were the case, you forgot to put the baseball field in there and a bunch of other things. I hope I am making myself clear. You actually have at least 4 photos in one here and they all compete for the viewer's emotions.

This could be improved dramatically by "raking light" on the building, which would model it better and provide also a blast of luminance on the arch itself. Conceptually it's a wonderful picture.
