Curve Aheadby RanklesComment: This was quite the surprise, as I almost scrapped the photo due to the difficulty I had pulling it together for the submission as the lighting was challenging and it was quite a rush to get the shot. Goes to show that when in doubt always make sure to submit something, you never know who it will resonate with. Thanks everyone! |

Surveillanceby namComment: Despite this being a portrait shot when I really feel Film Noir should be cinematic and thus landscape, this is by far the best mix of subject, lighting and composition that meets the challenge. Top 3. |

Night guestby LevTComment: The most 'noir' of the challenge, both for outfits and especially lighting and composition. Bumping up to make it top pick. |

My Way or the Highwayby cloudsmeComment: Top pick for me. Actually using the shallow DOF of the challenge to add something to the photo and the composition as opposed to just ticking the challenge box. Well done! |

How did the gear turn out? |
Ha! The irony was not lost when this started to do relatively well...
The gear really impressed me to be fair. Everything was in my Manfrotto backpack which is water repellant - not waterproof - but did the job nicely. The tripod has a few battle scars on the head from where it bounced off a rock but it's otherwise perfect despite being underwater for ten minutes or so while I got my main kit to a safe space.
Just my pride was hurt :D now I know to bring wellies and not try to use a tripod as a walking stick at least. |

happy daysby NeatComment: I'm studying the candid shots on DPC in anticipation of the upcoming challenge. This is wonderful!
RE: no mobile phones and candid shots you would love summer afternoons in Sicily. The piazzas in the coastal towns are filled with elderly folks sat in groups outside their houses on deck chairs, chatting with anyone who passes by and playing cards. It's like another time. Wonderful! |
